Yes, usually listeners are there to listen to what you have to say, it's important to know it's up to you whether to share one thing or not. Having a listener allows you to talk while describing what you want them to listen to, and letting you have a clear vision of what you're facing or faced in the past. Or even anxiety (thoughts of the future) for some people.

As @Sunisshiningandsoareyou  mentioned, you can browse listeners and filter your category,age, gender, and language and select a listener with whom you are comfortable to talk to.
