2-step authentication

Hello,

I would like to talk to someone from customer support for 7cups, if there is such a person.

I have been trying to get in touch in 7cups team by email, but no success.

I have many suggestions to make for the technical part of 7cups.

This time i want to suggest the implementation of 2-step authentication. I think it is mandatory for any well-known platform nowadays.

If anyone knows about any forum thread about this, please share the link. I wasn't able to find any.

If anyone can contact the development team or anyone from 7cups management, that would be even better.

Thanks and cheers,

Morco

@Morco Use the Submit a Request link at the top of this page - https://help.7cups.com/hc/en-us

This link is help & feedback at the bottom right on most of the 7cups pages.

@Morco It is not mandatory for the great majority of platforms I use.

This is partly because of the very great security risk. I am confident that most people reading this will know not to use the same password for different websites. But many people using 2-step authentication use the same second step for different websites. This means that 2-step authentication seems like a good idea when it is rare, which it currently is, but its value decreases as more and more websites offer it.

So I only use 2-step authentication when the second step is unique, just like my password is unique.

Furthermore, I am not aware of any evidence that 7 Cups' present security arrangements have failed, or are likely to fail, and therefore I think it would be difficult to make a business case for 2-step authentication.

@RarelyCharlie I don't think you understand how 2-step auth works. It is usually implemented as a code you receive by SMS on your phone. Even if you use the same password, the fact that it requires your phone makes the whole process way more secure.

As for the 2nd part of your answer, the main goal of security is prevention, not fixing the problem once it happened. Right now 7cups seems a very insecure platform to me. I am worried that my account might get hacked any time. And since the support team doesn't answer, I am wondering if I should invest my time in this platform or not, since the risks seem quite high.

@Morco Yes, that's how 2-step authentication often works. You need a separate SIM card and phone number for each account you want to authenticate. Otherwise anyone who hacks one account has access to your second step on all your accounts. In effect your phone number is your second password, and you must not use the same second password for more than one account.

It's not clear why you are worried your 7 Cups account might get hacked at any time. Who would want to hack it? Have you any evidence that 7 Cups accounts are often hacked?

@RarelyCharlie

No evidence and i hope it won't happen.

Why would someone hack 7cups... for gathering sensitive information about people.

I guess nothing will change until a crisis appears.
