Newbie questions
Hi,
I just started using 7 Cups yesterday. I'm struggling a bit with a few things on this site.
1. First, is the material we write saved or is it erased regularly? I wrote in a gratitude journal and also answered a question"what would you tell a friend." and now I cannot see it.
2. I see that I was tagged in a post, but cannot find it.
3. How do I review Listeners? My listener adviced me in a way that stated the obvious and when I started telling the person my deeper feelings, she/he ran off. I'm not happy about that.
This is hard to navigate!

Hi , I'm new, but how do I sign up for the honor roll??
@HappyHelper242424 I don't know what the honor roll is at 7 Cups. Can you explain, or provide a link to where you saw it?
Charlie
@BaliPaul 1. Gratitude journals—I don't know. I don't think I've ever seen an actual journal where you can look back over time and see how your entries have changed. So I assume the entries are not saved.
I believe questions in the Q&A are reviewed, and those that seem acceptable are stored. I assume the others are discarded.
2. It's possible you were tagged in a post and then someone deleted the post. Or you were tagged in a post in an area of the forum you have no access to. Both of these things happen from time to time.
3. See: Reporting listeners/members If that doesn't tell you what you need to know, ask in that thread.
Yes, it's hard to navigate.

@RarelyCharlie @BaliPaul I agree about the gratitude journal, my best guess is that it used to be tied to the feed function (if you filled in the gratitude journal prompt on your progress path, this used to post to your feed so you could look back on it -- now with no feed, I think it just disappears?) Alternatively, there is the "gratitude journal" feature in the notes (found on the drop down menu from your profile picture...on desktop at least), which would save, if you wanted to use it :) But I don't think it's linked to the one on the progress path
1. I am wondering what connecting with a therapist through 7cups is like. Is the experience helpful or similar to connecting with therapists on other apps/other places? Do they work with you on goals and provide advice/guidance? Do they set up 1-hour appointments? Is it message-based or do they use phone/video calls?
2. How does 7cups know I have completed a conversation with a listener for the badge needed to access group support chat rooms, such as the Special Events Room?
3. How can I see a list of all threads I am subscribed to?
@RarelyCharlie @TaranWanderer
@coolcat361
1. I have no experience with therapy on 7cups or on other apps/online sites, so I can't say for sure what they'd be like. But I'm almost positive it is text-based only, and from what I understand from the therapy info, it sounds like it's more chatting throughout the week (a couple messages a day?) rather than one complete session at a time. But that's just what's written, it's entirely possible the therapists actually do things differently. I do believe the therapists are more allowed to provide advice/guidance (unlike listeners), and I would assume that if you wanted to create goals, they would work with that. But just assumptions really.
2. I think it's based on a certain amount of messages exchanged. In my head I think it's 20? As a listener, I think that's the threshold where my "chats" number would increase, so I'm assuming it is the same for counting as a "chat" for a member.
3. You can find that under "my forum threads" in the drop-down menu when you click your profile picture in the top right corner (this is on the desktop site/using 7cups on your mobile through the internet browser rather than the app). The default setting will be your own threads, but you can unselect that check box, and check off the one that says "subscribed threads", and then it'll show you all the ones you're subscribed to.

Hi! How are chat hours earned or calculated?
@helpfulPurple9788 If I remember right they are calculated, not timed, and there are two systems—one for interns and another for listeners generally.
Each system converts numbers of messages to hours using a formula, but exactly what the two formulas are is difficult to discover. I don't think I have ever seen a complete explanation, taking into account any differences between messages sent and messages received, and any differences between 1-to-1 and group chats. Perhaps @7CupsCommunity can explain it all.

Thank you @RarelyCharlie for helping with the question. One chat hour is equal to 30 messages exchanged between a member and a listener, in which both parties should remain active (active being that there is not more than a 2-3 minute gap between messages).
@7CupsCommunity I am confused by this, because it is not the same as information posted in other places. Is this because the method of calculation has changed recently, and the information in those other places is wrong?
Charlie
@RarelyCharlie Yesterday I chatted to a member. We had chatted several days before, so there were 40 old messages on screen when we started. I tracked my chats and hours during this chat, and I didn't chat to anyone else.
After 12 minutes and just just 20 messages (60 total on screen) one chat and one hour were added to my totals.
After another 25 messages (85 total on screen) one chat was added, but my hours remained the same.
After another 25 messages (110 total on screen) one chat was added, but my hours remained the same. There was a 7 minute break in the chat during this sequence of messages, but it didn't seem to affect anything.
After another 29 messages (139 total on screen) one chat was added, but my hours remained the same.
The chat ended soon after this. I was logged out overnight. When I logged in this morning the numbers had not changed since the end of the chat.
Overall, 139 messages had resulted in 4 chats and 1 hour being recorded, but I can't work out what the logic is.
Charlie
@RarelyCharlie This morning when I logged in the numbers were still the same. I sent 5 messages in total to three different members, and that caused another chat and another hour to be recorded.
Charlie
@7CupsCommunity Thanks for this info!
Hi. I'm new to 7cups and newly sober (from alcohol). Im a little lost and sad right now. I feel like it would be helpful to talk things through. I guess right now what I'm going through is: thinking of a change in location and career (starting fresh), forgiving myself and moving on from the past, finding new hobbies so I don't continue to overthink everything (because my old life mostly revolved around drinking). I grew up with drinkers, In a town full of drinkers, and I basically feel a bit lost, sad and bored now that im trying to start fresh. Anyone gone through this? I'm a female, turning 30 soon. What are my options on this platform? I appreciate you time in advance. Thanks.
How can I find group chats ?
@royalPainting7746 This!
Hello @restorationrealm hope you've been able to find the group chats?
They are found on the dashboard, here- https://www.7cups.com/chat/
You can also check out more about group support and chatrooms here- https://www.7cups.com/forum/groupmod/
Are there any interesting group chats except the ones that show when you click "chats"-"group chats"
Hi, just a quick question: how do I leave (sub)community? I can't find a way to do so on desktop or on the app! Please help!
@toucans In the website go to the subcommunity's main page. The link for leaving is in the right-hand column, at the bottom (if I remember right). If everything is in one column, it's probably at the very bottom. In the app I have no idea.
Charlie
@RarelyCharlie
ah, thank you! I'll try it. :)
@toucansdo du u wanna log out
