Does law enforcement monitor this site? Is it totally anonymous?

@Lifewars

Hey there. This is a good question. This website is completely anonymous, which is why we refer all crisis situations to 7cups.com/crisis . I hope this helps.

@Lifewars The answer is complicated, unfortunately.

Law enforcement could monitor the site and the app if they wanted to.

If any law enforcement agency is monitoring 7 Cups they wouldn't tell anyone, obviously. So we have no way to know whether 7 Cups is being monitored or not.

I have never heard of any action being taken against anyone at 7 Cups as a result of monitoring. This makes me think 7 Cups is reasonably safe.

7 Cups makes monitoring easier by hiding* the e-mail address you signed up with, and your approximate age in years, in every web page you look at on the site, including the page you are reading right now. I don't know whether the app does this too, but I guess it probably does.

For better anonymity you can sign up using a fake address and date of birth, and access the site through a different random VPN each time (although some VPNs might themselves be monitored), but it has been suggested that in future 7 Cups might not allow these protections any more, and if that happens it would make monitoring easier.

* To see for yourself, in a web browser like Firefox or Chrome on a computer, press Ctrl+U then Ctrl+F and type email in the little search box.
