Suggestions for choosing where to post
Figuring out the best place to start a thread isn't always easy - especially if the topic of your post overlaps several categories. Especially when you are just starting out - it's overwhelming and not necessarily clear. There have been several post this week that are pre-faced with "I wasn't sure where to post this".
It's disheartening to drop a post in forum you think fits your topic most - to have it go unanswered. I myself, have a few topics I'd like to post but I don't really think they fit well anywhere. I've had one or two post - just go sit.

What tips do anyone have for posting a topic to the community forums?
What should a member think about doing when it doesn't fit any category?
How should you cope with an unanswered thread? Pick somewhere else or just leave it and hope someone eventually says something.

Just go with the place it seems to fit the best. If a forum section belongs to a subcommunity, it tends to be more likely to be responded to, as there are people leading that section.
Reponses sadly sometimes are slow. If there's no response, there's nothing wrong with trying in another area. It also helps if one doesn't make more than one post, as if a topic only has the original post, it shows up in the Needs Reply list.
