When I was little I believed I could grow up to be a boy. I wore grass stains like a badge of honor. I'm still working to make that happen.

When I was little I believed that when I grow up I will be able to do whatever I want and therefore be free and happy. I found out quickly enough that adulthood is not freedom and happiness.

@Tiferet76 I wanted to say the same thing! Being a kid, I looked up at all adults like they were a completely different species, who never had to worry about trivial things... unfortunately, now I know better. Adults have the same struggles as children, their problems are just ten times bigger because they have to organize their own finances, living, health, etcetera.

Yeah I can't even count the number of times that I've wished I could be a kid again and have no responsibilities. I always wonder why I was in such a hurry to grow up.

i like being an adult. I can buy stuff and no one will urge me to go home when I go looking at barbies. I remember that I wandered into a shop with my elementary school friends and a guy told me to go home. He yelled at me. I was so scared. As an adult, no one will tell me to go home. As an adult, I can get married and escaping my condescending family. There's no privacy with my parents. My mother will read my letters to my friends out loud and laugh. Now that I am married, she denies it. When I lived with her, she had to rule over everyone in the house. She still rules in her house. My poor dad has to live with her. Not that my dad isn't hard to live with too. They are each other's hell. Now I can work for my money and not be turned down by my mother when I ask her for money. Etc etc etc

I'm so sorry that you treated like that as a child. I was pretty horrible as a child I'm ashamed to think of how much trouble I gave my mom when I was growing up but for all of that I was still always treated fairly and with love. For me other than the trouble I was always getting into childhood was my happiest time those things that I considered big problems then are pretty insignificant to me as an adult but it makes it easy to forget that not everyone's childhood was as easy and happy. Makes me think that maybe I should have been born into a family where the parent/parents were more deserving of the grief I gave my mom. It is really heartbreaking thinking about how many children out there grow up not knowing how it feels to be cared about and loved I wish all children could grow up feeling that way.

wow, you are lucky. Most people I know had a bad childhood but I only know people from 7 cups. Also my ex bf had a sad childhood in which his mother won't get him any toys that he likes.

As an adult, I realized that I lived with bipolar ever since a child. I would have no energy to go to clubs after school or to Halloween parties. I remember this cute guy used to ask me to go to a school thrown Halloween party and I said next year but it was already my senior year. I still didn't go. Maybe that's why I have no friends. I have no energy to go do extracurricular activities in high school. I was to blame for not having friends. Although besides that cute guy, I never get invited to any parties. My life was so pathetic

It's been really hard for you, I'm glad you have at least found some fiends here. School was not a happy time for me, I hated every minute of it I only had a couple of friends most everyone else treated me like garbage so I hated them. That was one of the main reasons I didn't go to college I did not know then that college is way different than high school. I suppose that is one reason I am glad I am no longer a kid I couldn't bear to live through that again.

When I was little I thought my bones were as fragile as glass, my teddy bears had feelings and different friendships with each other, if there was an intruder in the house I could deal with them haha and my perants were almost invincible aswell as thinking my 30 year old uncle was 16 when I was 6, which is still a bit worrying lol
