Hi,

I agree. A lot of people would say such ridiculous sentences to improve their spiritual status. Well, my idea is to ignore them because hearing them say such a garbage is a waste of my time:)

Speaking personally, I don't charge people for helping them. I don't refuse payment to seem more enlightened then the next person I just can't charge someone who needs help. I'd feel too guilty. I have trouble receiving, full stop. I feel guilty when people give me gifts.

I'm not sure if it was how I was raised or some undiagnosed neurosis, but, I find it almost impossible to refuse to help someone if they need help. And, if they can't pay I'm not going to refuse them. If I have the ability then I will help. I don't know why; it's just how I'm wired.

I help people because I care not because I want something in return or for approval. If the person I'm helping is insistent about paying me then I'll tell them to either buy me something to eat or cook me something if they're willing. Sometimes I'll ask a for favor in return for my help if they're insistent on paying me. I find that in the long run what goes around comes around for the most part and it may be months down the line but eventually I'll need something and one of the people I've helped will step up and help me in return for no charge. Mutual support.

I don't knock people who need or want payment for work. Some people really need the money or just don't want to be used for free labor. I've had to refuse to help a couple of people because I felt they were using me for free labor. I like to help people but I refuse to be used. Like is said, I help because I care, but, if I feel they don't care about me in return or are manipulating me then I'll cut them off or refuse to work for them. There have also been people who were super needy and would constantly ask for help and constantly take until the point of my collapse. I had to cut them off as well. And there have been times when I really wanted to help someone who needed it but I was too tired or in a bad place to be able to help. Refusing them made me feel like dirt, but, I only had enough energy to take care of myself.

People who say they "don't work for money" probably haven't had financial issues before [or in a long time].

I sure as hell work for money though lol.

Or, they could be just saying that because they're already retired and don't need the money? Or already have money, and work just to keep themselves busy. I know several people like that. Depends on culture too, some people just work, just to work because it's ingrained in them, even if they're already set for life.

It doesn't disgust me, I just don't care what they say.

I'm focused on living my life and paying off my debt.

If those people are bothering you, ignore them and focus on doing you. Make that money from your job and live your best life!

Nope...it's really crude of u think they don't mean it....a lot people don't work for money, and just because we're not one of them and are in a majority doesn't mean we'll shame them like this

Ahhh, I'm working on reframing thoughts here, so maybe I'll shed some light somewhere along the lines.

I personally don't feel that the publisher was intentionally trying to shame those of us that use the phrase, "I don't work for money". Assuming that the publisher may not be in a job position that's balanced & beneficial to them...may be an idea.

All in all, regardless of our perspective when it comes to working, we all work for money to some degree. That said, situational factors play a huge part in how we feel about it. But since we require basic needs such as food, water, shelter/safety, etc...we need some amount of funding to make that happen and to sustain feeling "stable", before crossing the whole "meaning & purpose in life" conversation bridge.

My point being that we should limit the judgement we put on others, as we are not in their shoes nor do we know the full extent of what they're going through. The publisher is valid in feeling this way, as are you, as am I, and as anyone else.

Hi. I don't usually post, but I have something to say on this topic.

I've been through a LOT in my life - and been in some pretty dark places both emotionally and financially over the years.

However, my current circumstances (with my guy's help / agreement - I'm in a Committed relationship) - that working a paid job is no longer a necessity -- in fact the stress of a paid job (I have a VERY strong work ethic) can be pretty overwhelming.

So it isn't for "Enlightenment" - rather it's a way for me to "Pay it Forward" -- so many people have helped me over the years. I simply wish to give back. On the other hand, like someone else said, I don't wish to get overly taken advantage of either.

I enjoy helping people here on 7 Cups as time allows. With that said, I don't keep a set schedule - coming on when I am able. I also don't accept / continue all chats -- I wish to focus on those who sincerely want to be heard and are interested in / committed to working through whatever they are dealing with.

Kind Regards,

Donna6789
