The M word

Seriously don't understand the entire deal with menopause.
I hate it and everything I read about it makes me cry. I and my sister had the worst experience going into peri m.
We both experienced serious past trauma and I read somewhere after the experience that this old trauma can really affect your menopausal experience. I had no idea .
I feel like I completely lost my sanity during this time and so did my sister. I just wish someone would have informed us on what to expect how it could potentially affect us because of our past and where to find support. I look back on this time period and think " omg I needed an advocate to help me through it" . I felt alone .
I had experienced some additional serious traumas during my menopausal experience adding to my suffering. I was so vulnerable because of the hormones going haywire. I didn't have a handle on what was happening to me. So frustrating!!
Why does society not help women through this major life experience? I just wasn't in a frame of mind that I could help myself, I was suicidalllll. So was my sister.
I guess I just wanted to commiserate here with like minded people.
And I hope my post can help another person who's also suffering.

Ah, yes, the M-Word.
It's true that people don't talk about menopause and yet 50% of the population goes through it!
In my mid 40's I started asking all my older female friends to tell me about their menopausal experiences. I was a little surprised (but not really) that people were so willing to share their stories with me.
Some people had terrible experiences with crazy symptoms. Some people breezed right through with only minor changes.
My mom went through early menopause and I fully expected this would happen to me, but at age 50, I'm still going strong. I have been in peri-menopause for a couple of years now, noticing gradual changes but nothing really dramatic yet. I'm happy to elaborate a little if anyone here actually cares. Just one more person's personal journey.
I think some people are terrified of the idea of menopause, others just accept it as part of life, which of course it is. It's a natural part of aging, and we should consider ourselves lucky to have made it this far!
@amiableBlackberry92
How does one communicate an experience that is different for many..... the articles and such on this subject i found to be generic and unhelpful
while i guess i am extremely lucky that i have not had a bad time of it ..........i do not think there is a one size fits all information on this subject........ there are many many ideas/ tips/ theories etc but i find most find answers be trail and error in this.
@toughTiger6481
I appreciate your response and supportive post. I agree there's no one size fits all for this situation. I just wish there was a hotline I guess lol.
I hit peri m at 54 and I had so much going on including an agonizing and painful injury it never occurred to me I was in peri m. I guess I was just so distracted I missed the symptoms or my brain was just focused on the extreme pain I was in along with the other events going on at that time( no pain meds were given). To list a few, a very Sick and dying family member I was caring for , a wedding for my adult daughter, my crazy busy job, a tragic loss of a parent . That's just a few of the things I had to deal with at that time. My list is long .
Looking back it was like I was a bus careening down a hill without brakes and I ended up slamming into a wall.
My life has changed a lot since that time but it was such a traumatic experience it still bothers me .
Thank you all for supporting . I love this forum because some caring person always helps you know that your not alone.

Such an important topic. It needs more research and we need to make it easier for those affected to talk about it. And maybe learn from others going/been through it.
I wonder what more 7 Cups can do to help?
