How to make decisions when depressed?

...See more I am really in need of advice/reassurance if possible. I have had no luck so far with a job where I live, and there is a job I have applied for in Chester - where I previously worked and left because I was so desperately unhappy, and went to university. I applied for it on a whim recently, when I think well its a job. But I left Chester partly due to me not having any family and support network. Being 2 hrs away from family with severe depression, (anxiety as well) and all the horrible aspects of life is and was hard for me when things were worse than ever. I dont want to move 2 hrs away simply for the sake of a job purely. Dont get me wrong, I can function and work away from home, and I did so for about 4 years roughly. I am always applying for more jobs, near to my hometown, but not having a job makes my depression even worse. I feel so worthless and guilty constantly. I know I will get a job however there is a lot more to a job than money. My last job was very well paid - 90 daily. However I was so stressed due to being humiliated by my manager, no support and pressure from my agency there to keep up with the ridiculously strict targets. I want my independence back, and to basically have a life of my own, involving moving out of my mums house. But I also dont know if I can be happy or even a bit less depressed living away from them again I apologise for not being very active recently, Thanks, Simon

...See more It has been 2 years or so since I last signed in on here, let alone contributed. To recap, last time I was here I was ranting about my insignificant problems compared to many more serious problems. Since June this year, I moved back to my hometown from working at M&S Bank, due to bad experiences at work there. My team manager quietly humiliating me in front of my team and every one else in the department. They expect high targets with amazing accuracy constantly with no problems, so many cases daily. It doesnt help if you have anxiety and or depression, but there was no support for me particularly since I was working on behalf of a shitty agency. I made some friends there, but I havent kept in contact, apart from the odd message I would send to one person, but as usual, it is never reciprocated. Trying to find a job again with about 11 months real work experience (and a degree) is so demoralising and horrible. Ive had job interviews, but so many bad ones where I gave my all, but to no avail. I dont want to move back to Chester, simply to get a job. I was so utterly lonely there especially when I had problems at work, and no family or real friends to turn to. What do you all do when youre depressed? As I am depressed every day, I listen to music, job hunt and think about suicide. My favourites are PJ Harvey, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Marianne Faithfull, The Stooges, Patti Smith and Kate Bush. Hardly cheerful I know!

How does anyone else rationalise things when it seems like the end of the world?

...See more This is the first time in months I've been on here ! On the surface, a big part of why I'm depressed is because I've not got a job. I did have a temporary short term job months after I graduated from university. A job would be a transformation for me in many ways, more money which I need, and I don't want to have to repeatedly take money of my mum even though she doesn't mind. But what it would allow me to do is permanently leave home and get a job back up north, where I went to university. What I miss so much from my uni days is/are regularish human contact. The only people I see and speak to are my family who live with me, and my grandma. All my uni friends are back in their own parts of the country, and I really want a social life again. I would also love to start dating again, which I was able to do at uni, I'd love to begin to settle down with my own life, but it's hard! I was on sertraline 200mg for several months, but I honestly didn't feel any better and so I didn't go back to the doctor to ask for more. I'm applying for administration assistant jobs and similar, just so I can build up my experience so I've got more going for me when I apply for civil service & similar jobs that I'd like to do. I know I will get a job, but the wait is excruciating and I can't stand it. I mean, I've got a certain level of voluntary work experience, from my local authority, my local Member of Parliament when I worked in his office. And I've now got a degree in politics and sociology - so hopefully it happens and soon! Apologies for the very lengthy post!

A "Catchup" depression/relationship failure Essay!

...See more Well, it's been a few months since I was last on here. I had quite a few difficult months since I was last active here, as a result of my incredibly stressful completion of my final year of university. I recently I have felt quite low, made worse by rejection emails from employers, as I'm now looking for work. It makes me feel so lost. Especially doesn't help when my stepfather pretty much gives me an ultimatum, saying I should get a job in two months if I don't get one in an area I'm interested in. Even though my mum told me that I should do no-such-thing, as she pays the bills and I should apply for something I would be happy doing. Even still, it didn't make me feel particularly great/wanted. And now now on to the topic of relationships, since I had to move back home to Warwickshire form university in Chester, I've lost pretty much all independence and chance to go on dates. And as I recently ran out of my "happy pills" as my friend likes to call them, I've been feeling really quite seriously depressed again, whilst drinking a lot again, especially how lonely I feel. Am very sorry for the long essay. Any tips? Thank you!

...See more I met a guy who I really like so much. We've had 3 dates, and on Friday he was going to stay over in my flat with me. We were having a really great time, until he got a call from his brother that his uncle suddenly had a heart-attack earlier, and obviously had to go to the hospital. We kissed a lot, but from yesterday I felt like crap. I really hope he is okay, but I at the same time hope he's interested in seeing me again. My anxiety and depression has been worse. Understandably he's not been texting as much, but I'm worried he'll go off me. I stayed in all day worrying. I've into just got over a guy how many months ago who hurt me, and I really can't pick myself up again. Help please?

...See more My life has gone all-tits up. After realising things with the guy I like changed, I asked what was wrong. Apparently, I'm always depressed, basically a kill-joy. Along with continually apologising. It was the thing that set me off. I went out, with my eyes red, and me looking a complete mess and bought several boxes of paracetamol and ibuprofen, and vodka, in order to kill myself. I didn't take them obviously, but I'm keeping them. It was the thing that just made me crack. I don't enjoy being this depressed constantly, how someone I could like as much as him could be so horrible just crushed me. Now I'm going to wait and see how I feel, then decide what to do, but I'm not ruling out taking all the tablets I have. I could really do with some advice please?
