Feeling down about college

Hi, I’m new to this community and haven’t introduced myself yet. I am noodles, I’m currently 20 and I’m in my first year of college (United States).

This is the second quarter that I enrolled in, and I’m just taking care of prerequisites (for an Accounting major) and all that and decided to take a music theory class since I’ve always been interested in it. The more I’m in this class, the more I only want to do this class. I don’t want to do anything else.

It made me realize that I really don’t want an accounting job like I’ve been thinking about since I was 16, I yearn to create. I have so many creative hobbies and it feels like the only time I’ll be able to indulge in them is when I’m old. I just want to make music, sing, draw, paint, write poetry, but the state of the world and my government are blocking my dreams. Even this accounting degree might not mean anything in a few years.

I guess I’m feeling hopeless. Like everything that I would ever for towards or enjoy will always be overshadowed by the fact that this time period or world in general is not made for me. Is the only time I won’t have to worry about finances, homework, my safety, etc, be after I finish my life course?

@TheNoodles

This may not be the last time you find interests to follow another path in life. Few if any friends i have are in the field they went to college for.  Making a career decision in your teens often based on salary or what maybe teachers and parents convinced it was a safe and secure choice.

enjoy learning all you can explore classes life is a journey and the plans change.

@TheNoodles I worry about this too, especially with music performance. I recently graduated with a degree each in business and music so your post really spoke to me. My plan when graduating was to get an accounting day job and play music on the side when a music internship fell into my lap so there’s hope. Not sure what I’m doing long term but I wish you well on your path

Hey noodles it's good to see you posting a post about yourself and you sound like a passionate person who wants to pursue his passion but I get what it feels to be stuck and to struggle without making any progress,to want to do something but not being able to fully pursue it,but I'll say one thing don't let this down, you'll eventually reach your destination, where you want to be 💛

I believe you won’t always feel like this , as time goes on you’ll find footing , if you enjoy doing things on creative side is there a way for to find a little time to indulge in your hobbies a little maybe that will help with how you are feeling?
