Strong!!!

I occasionally see people or posts by people where they claim they are tired of being called strong or resilient. I can understand why.

However, while I can understand it and occasionally relate, I also find these claims to reveal my own need to be strong and resilient. I have been told by perhaps only a couple of people in life that I am strong, and depending on how it is said, it can either be deeply validating or dismissive.

For much of my life, I believe I am seen as someone who is not strong. Not resilient. That I should actually go through more stress and trauma to even earn these compliments or the respect that comes with it.

If I try to bring attention to my needs, I may be seen as fishing for attention, ungrateful, dramatic, or rude. I don't get to just be strong and be admired for that. I have to be strong in silence so no one has to notice it.

So... I guess just know that, even though sometimes it feels dismissive when someone says you are strong, at least they cared enough to notice yours.

I get what you're trying to say but ive noticed that the majority of people who say that what you went through wasnt enough or whatever are miserable and are not as strong as you think they are. They hide behind their social status, types of jobs they have/community role to seem strong but when you strip it away they are weak as ***. The reason why people dont like being called resilient(speaking for myself) is that it actually doesnt bring you anything. People may call you Resilient today and then take advantage of you tomorrow. When you finally need help, they throw their hands in the air and just abandon you. There is no reward for actually being resilient. Just repressed loneliness, people taking advantage of you, and no one actually being there when you need it the most

You are so real for this 🙏 I do reserve things for my own trying to look strong, it's tiring AND frustating.
