This article was infornative. My best friend of 25 years is bipolar and there are times when she is having a manic episode I have to step back and create my own space.She says and does things and does not remember either saying them or doing them during her episodes.
My degree in psychology has been extremely helpful because I understand she has no control. However, my degree does not make it easier to navigate during these times. She refuses to take medication for her BP. I once did not speak with her for two years this was before I had my degree. Now I will tell her I need some space and I will take a few days to recharge and then we will talk. Friendships are important in our lives we are social creatures, but we must also have boundaries in place.
