Interesting post!
An unhealthy cycle of negative thoughts, can't be beneficial for you. But, I also do empathize as I know everyone has their reasons and It mustn't be easy. <3

I love that analogy of a pity pot, and flushing away the self pity.
Thanks for that image.
8 out of all those apply to me..
I didn't know these signs meant self pity.
Many of these apply to me.
Recently I wondered why I keep remembering the past, why I don't find joy for much, I reminisce, I have been told I'm self absorbed and have been confused by it since I usually think I'm just keeping to myself. I have also noticed my conversations with people are mostly about what is going wrong and not what goes well. I focus on the negative too much.
Now I wonder if I have been seeking comfort and if so, why??
Thank you for provoking all these questions in me. I really hope I can find an answer.
geez...good thing I don't check off every item on that list.
Part of what drives self-pity, I think, is the assumption that life/the universe/etc. owes you something. It's a form of entitlement, & may or may not be something one is consciously aware of. My attitude is a bit different: Yes, life usually stinks. But this world is under no obligation to give you, or anyone else, a happy life. You are not that important in the grand scheme of things. From the earliest times, most people spent their lives in suffering; until very recently, life was poor, dirty, exhausting, often violent, & brief. If you have any good things in your life right now, be grateful for them.
