Say Hello! We want to meet all 40 year old members!
Hi im 40 nice to meet you all.
Hey everyone. Great to find some other crotchetty old timers on 7 Cups. Too bad we don't a "mature folks" live chat forum-- it would be fantastic to have people with significant life experience to access when we need to air issues.
3 things to introduce myself? Hmmm....
1. I recently re-relocated to Chicago after 14 long years in Louisiana. I have had to remember how to deal with snow, since I really haven't seen Winter in quite a long time.
2. I supported myself since I was 17, managed to put myself through getting my Master's Degree, bought a house on my own... then a combination of rotten life whammies (including my despised Bipolar II) made sure I lost absolutely everything.
3. Throughout the decades I have had a lot of jobs, some of which have been; Assistant to a Colo-Rectal Surgeon, Bourbon Street Bartender, College Composition Instructor, Veterinary Technician, and Gardener. Being currently unemployed is driving me nuts.
Hope to connect with some of you all in the near future!
@ladylazarus1971 Update, everyone!!!! We DO now have a 35+ group chat! Come check it out. It has been much fun getting it rolling!!! <3
I'm 4(3 next month!)
New Listener, totally overwhelmed by all the choices of things to learn here. But good overwhelmed. Excited overwhelmed.
Happily married, 10 years, to my soulmate.
Um, um. Third thing? I'm a writer, work as a web dev.
Happy to be here!
@WrenGS Hi! So happy to hear there's a "finely aged" Listener potentially available here. I hadn't searched for one for quite a while-- sort of gave up to be honest-- but wondered about your availability. Are you taking on new folks needing 1-1s? If so, what time frame (based on American EST) are you available?
Even if I don't get a chance to connect with you individually, I'm glad you are here, adding to th community.
@Laura THIS is a relief - never thought I'd be proclaiming joy at just turning 44, but was feeling that I was old enough to be everyone's mum on here! I'm a single mum to 3 beautiful daughters, I don't feel that much different from when I was 16 which is both good and bad! And after a tough few years, I've decided life starts here, so I'm going after my dream, which is to be a writer.
@CuriousBookworm5 Glad to meet you. Weird not feeling 44, even when we are, huh? I'm looking forward to getting to know you. Love to you and the family!!
@ladylazarus1971 Hello, glad to meet you too! I'll say. My eldest is nearly 18 but she's the one who ends up saying "are you stopping texting now, are you going to take this seriously, have you finished messing about now' I don't think I'm trusted to behave like a proper adult! Thank you for a lovely message. Hope things are good for you and your life. Here if needed for all that's good and bad. Take care, Janet
Hello I'm 42 years old, mother of 2. My special needs daughter just turned 18 and I feel like my life can now begin.
HIello, all!
I'm 49, so part of me thought about posting in the 50's group, but I'm nnot there yet, so...
1. I'm a high school teacher, and I know part of this is the time of year, but I'm so tired and burned out it's hard to make it in to work every day. I've been late multiple times this year - more than in the rest of my career as a whole. I'd like them to care about their educations and the futures at least as much as I do; but I'm tired of playing the "heavy."
2. I have been divorced three times, and recently broke up with a boyfriend of five months. A Freudian would probably say that's because I lost my dad as a young teen, but I don't know. What I do know is that I'm always the one who leaves.
3. As a good outcome of Point 2, I have two gorgeous, smart, capable daughters, who will both be in college this fall. I couldn't be more proud of them if I tried! I am trying to hold out for them to come home this summer, but I miss them terribly.
Anyway, see you all around the boards.

Hi,
I am 46, been single all my life. Of late I have taken to high altitude treks and am going to scale my first peak in a few days, so am moving on to mountaineering. On the road, I simply love bicycling/running and am an avid runner too, aiming for my first complete marathon somewhere in December this year. My abiding interest is in the Bible, I am fascinated by it and it's a sort of flame that refuses to die. Beyond that I don't do well in religious group, so I pretty much do my own thing.
I find 7 Cups very challenging and it has helped me to continually challenge my own self. Laslty, am a climate change activist as I have seen the effects on marginal tribal communities, with whom I have worked with as an evangelist ( again on an individual basis ).
@meaculpa Hi mea! It has been good interacting with you in the 35+ room. Glad to see your post here, and learn more about you. Hope to see you soon in the chatroom, and good luck on your upcoming mountain adventure!
Hi! Just turned 42, wow, and going through trying to accept change.
Here y'all are, I was starting to think I was the only non- 20 - something. I'm new to 7 cups - joined a couple of weeks ago.
3 things about me:
1. I'm a very kind-hearted, open-minded, artistic soul who has retained a sense a childlike wonder about the beautiful things in nature and life. I wish all people could learn to look beyond their fears to find happiness and to love and want the best for everyone regardless of their race, sexual orientation, religion/spirituality, class etc.
2. I have 3 step kids who are amazing and who embraced me from the beginning and that was and is an honor. I adore my partner but I find life with kids overwhelming at times and I also feel like caring for them (and other domestic duties) takes so much time that I end up not taking care of myself properly and honoring my own talents and life path. I feel fulfilled in one sense (by love) but I also have a sense of emptiness as a result (betraying my calling)
3. I have a strong urge to follow a long latent dream but I am held back by fears of failure, financial issues, judgement, self-doubt and I'm trying to figure out how to restructure my life at this age so I feel like I am contributing in a way that feels purposeful and aligned with my soul. Anyone out there have stories of changing careers or choosng to follow a dream in your 40s?
I am delighted to meet you all!! :)
@Sydney33 delighted to meet you. Rough patches I guess can't be avoided but seems like being 40-something means a new take on life.
😊
I too am finding my 40s as a time to rewrite my story. No idea where it will end up yet. Keep hoping for better days.
@bestVase7265 I too am having very hard days. Don't know where I am headed or will end up. Very depressing and scary.
You will find a way. The path is there, but we cannot always see it.@communicativePlane9108
@bestVase7265 it is being very elusive then. It's excruciating trying to accept life is changing. I am terrified.
Then I ask that you feel peace. I can remember when I graduated from college the dean saying that though they were terrifying, the moments when we are flying through the air between the trapeze bars were when we were really living. You are rediscovering yourself and the new life that you make can be better than the old one. It is the hope that I hang on to.@communicativePlane9108
@bestVase7265 just trying to make it through the moment at this point. You know you get older but you never really thought it would actually happen. It's like you turn around and there's your mortality all up in your face and it's all you can think about.
@bestVase7265 you have hope. It is good.
I do have hope at the moment and I am going to hold onto it as long as I can. Mortality is something we have next to us every day, young or old. Hope and living in the moment are the only ways to find joy.@communicativePlane9108
@bestVase7265I am glad that you can feel those emotions...I am empty except for negativity that wins everyday.
