How would you handle an avoidant partner
My boyfriend and I have been dating for a little over 2 years and we live together. As he puts it checked out of the relationship. We're still together but I have a feeling hes an avoidant. Has anyone been in this type of situation

People check out of a relationship for many reasons. Can he share why he feels checked out? Some stay together simply put as it is easier than splitting up and starting over.
The diagnosis and labels of avoidant cover too many possibilities. IMO gives people a reason to not change. If that is his problem, it is his Issue and only he can fix it. We cannot fix or change others it is on them. We can urge them to change by simply telling them this is not working for you.
If this is not what you want in a relationship or a future.......... you need to decide your boundaries of how long you want to continue hoping he comes around to what you want or start to value your time to find someone who is ready and be IN a relationship fully.
When you say "avoidant", do you mean he's avoiding conflict, or he's avoiding you?
Yes, yes I have. I have a ton of experience with avoidant types both dismissive and fearful types.
What exactly makes you think he may be an avoidant besides his "checked out" behavior?
Just. Been ghosted by my wife by the 3rd time I should have known but its not a good feeling 😕 if you wanna talk hmu

I would try to open up some line of communication with him to find out where you both stand. You need a healthy foundation to stand on, so figure out what needs both of you have and where you can make compromises to meet each other in the middle. If you’re able to make this foundation, you can build on it with understanding and compassion, but self compassion comes first. Love yourself by finding your needs and boundaries and addressing the conflicts that are triggering this avoidance. Why does he feel checked out of the relationship?
