What would you do?
If someone offered you a pill and said "You will lose you memory of bad things that happened to you, you will forget about relationships and people that hurt you, and you will get to start a new life somewhere else without those memories" would you take that pill?
@zeetee17 it depends :P
I would but only for certain people I would want that lol
Probably.
@zeetee17
Yes. I'm older and wiser now. I have better coping skills. I would take the pill and see what kind of human being I'd turn out to be. If taking the pill could lead to self-love, I'd call it a miracle.
No...they are what make us who we are today
@zeetee17
Yes
@zeetee17 definitely!
Countless movies ..... books.... even songs have addressed this.
Do only you forget or is any help, influence or piece of you wiped away from all those you have encountered? each person or situation is a lesson or a blessing and if you wipe it all away perhaps you will need to go through it again to grow.
We tend to dwell on the bad or uncomfortable parts of life .............yet forget or might not even know that in some moments you may have said or done something that helped others in ways that changed them for the better.

Iclaim trash
I think it would erase too much. Years ago my mother had shock therapy which is something they do to wipe parts of your memory to get rid of intrusive thoughts and bad thought patterns like ruminating, but it causes brain damage. She said there were chunks of her young adulthood she couldn't get back.
Your idea would be the same as that, only more selective. Only the bad things would go. But there are so many things in the past that hurt and leave scar tissue I think the memories you would have left would be in tatters. Say I have a good memory of my father reading to me - but remembering that now causes me pain because he is gone and it is linked to memories of him suffering? Would I keep that one or not? If I did keep it I would go on hurting. If I didn't keep memories of that type I'd likely remember so little that I'd no longer have the framework to understand anything about my past and what happened in it.
I don't know how bad a thing that would be. But it would certainly turn me into a lost soul, no past, no future, no context. A whole lot of my personality comes from the events in my life: learning to be independent, learning about and trying not to pass on dysfunctional family traits, learning what I want and need out of life. Do I even need that stuff now? I don't know. But I do know that the me who has those memories now wouldn't recognize a me without them. I would have erased most of who I am.
@zeetee17
Yes, I think I'd take the pill. Most of the things that have hurt me have not taught me a lesson and have not made me stronger... they were simply cruel. I've learned I'm not resilient. They've made me weak and unable to cope with life in a healthy way. I know I'm more compassionate and empathetic and a lot of people feel they can talk to me because I understand their hurts, but my heart is bleeding out... sometimes at a trickle, sometimes at a gush, but always bleeding. A chance at a different life would be nice.
