Take a Road Trip Day
Summer is here. The weather is sunny and warm for some around the world but you can always go for a road trip unless you have to much ice or snow. Its time for a road trip!!
The road awaits you. Today is the perfect day to declare yourself a day off and just get away or plan a day in the near future. While you can plan this day in advance, today will be the most fun by making it an unplanned trip. Be adventuresome. Go with the flow. Some of the best vacation memories come from a spur of the moment trip, with no prior planning or thought.
Heres how to best enjoy Take a Road Trip Day: Your road trip is about the journey and not the destination. Sure, you can point to a destination, But, dont get hung up about reaching it. Take a spinner from a kids game board, and spin it. Point your car in the direction the spinner indicates, and just drive or if only 2 directions you can always flip a coin (heads go left/tails go right). Make sure to stop along the way at points of interest, arts and craft shops, antique stores, pretty scenery or any other place that attracts your attention. Keep off the superhighways and you will find much more fun things to do. Just a reminder if you are driving on roads that might not show up on GPS or are closed in the winter to ensure you aren't driving on to much snow that you will get stuck or that you will know how to get back home since some GPS systems won't work without a satellite or internet connection.
You can take a simple day trip, or you can pack an overnight bag and extend the road trip into the weekend which is my favorite choice. If you opt for the overnighter, remember this is an unplanned trip, so pack your bag at the last minute.
For those of you who cant hit the open road without a planned route and destination, its okay. Just keep in the spirit of an unplanned event as best you can.

@DanaMH nice idea. I love day trips. Sometimes just walking into my backyard is a world away. I live next to a conservation area. Sometime rabbits, deer, coyotes or wild turkeys. Off the grid but on the grid.

I wish I could have actively participated but only with memmories now...just like you said my whole life I enjoyed the trip and not the destination, the saga and the adventure...stopping everywhere...at age 12 I went on a bicycle trip by myself with no money for 3 weeks, just with my tent and help from people in villages for food...drove arround France for one month with a second hand car so battered that it smoked and consumed more oil tgan diesel and slept in the back...i stop now...but great ideea, i hope people can do it for me if i can no longer do it myself...

Maybe you can go to different parks like I have been and checking them out. Some places have different walking paths you can check out. If you live my the ocean there are many places to walk and discover shells or watch the waves. Make sand castles is always fun.
@DanaMH my depression is so severe that i cannot do anything if i am alone...not physically (i am fit despite my cancers) but mentally...without a soul companion cannot do anything anymore and not even that, because the love of my life tried to get me out of the house but i am not even able to groom myself to get out (again, mentally...)

Your welcome! Some cities also have summertime things to do like fairs, outdoor activities and movies.
@DanaMH plenty🤗🤗🤗, like antiques hunting or children exchanging collections in parks, or concerts etc...i also miss my nature, like hiking in the wods or mountaneering or swimming and diving in natural waters not artificial pools...😔

@DanaMH yours are great and essential: whatever road trip you choose make it an adventure, explore, stop as many times as you can to admire architecture, to sip a lemonade at a garage sale, to wash your car by hand in a road side creek...i ran out of gas sooo many times😂😂😂😂, my cars were all junk, broken windshield wipers or broken headlights or missing mirrors etc.😂😂😂 i got lost in the woods so many times, but i gathered flowers, berries, mushrooms, rocks...i never owned a gps and always fiddled with maps if they were not chewed by my dogs😂😂😂. Your ADVICE is great:always avoid highways, i did it fir two reasons: money, cops (because I had crappy cars😉) and scenery and freedom to stop whenever you want. Exploration, adventure, fun, thrills, unknown, all make plenty of memmories afterwards🤗🤗🤗😊😊😊
I think a bit of planning is a good idea. Fires further north of me are still leading to areas being evacuated, even if not entering an evacuation zone there are still issues such as limited routes out, and sometimes it can be difficult for people to complete the journey to the planned shelters due to lack of gas. It would be really irresponsible to go along such routes in the opposite direction and take gas when there may not be enough for those fleeing.
Checking out weather reports and avoiding travelling into an area with thunderstorm activity can also be quite unsafe, here we are starting to hit the period when tornadoes are most likely to develop and while they aren't all the frequent, it's good to be aware. Hail is a more common threat, can do some pretty good damage to a vehicle including smashing windshields even while parking and driving through big hail is a bad idea.
So go ahead an flip a coin or whatever if that's what one desires, but then check out what's going on in that area before deciding to make the trip based on that coin flip.
Being informed is very wise but taking it to extremes leaves you in the house. What if a roof tile falls on my head when exiting, what if I swallow a bee, what if homeles zombies made a home in my garage truck...this is about adventure, i drove through a heavily snowed closed mountain pass...i drove through whiteouts guiding myself by the telephone poles...i went rescuing people in boats when my big river flooded because i was a good swimmer and diver...but yes, thinking ahead is very prudent and having basic necessities if the situation allows...

I love road trips wish I had a trailer home and I would zip off far n near ever so often, stopping wherever I felt like and enjoy the bounty of nature...

I love road trips or better Island trips. Driving along the beautiful beaches, stopping in the rural area to go for a walk into the tropical forest, watching the monkies, listening to the birds and finishing with a nice drink sitting on a rock near the sea.
