Hello to anyone over 60, and congrtulations for being here on 7 Cups. I'm not seeing a lot of over 60 posts, so I thought I'd break the ice. Biggest challenge for me? I was in my late 50's when I lost my husband, suddenly, of a heart attack. The last 6 years have been some of the most challenging of my life. And I thought my 20's were bad! But I have come to a point where moist of my sense of humour has been restored, and I am grateful for the many years he and I had together.

These days I've been hanging out a lot here at 7 Cups. It's a pretty amazing place, and the younger people here treat me as a peer. Very sweet,

I invite any of you over 60's -- or over 50's-- to connect with me in any one of the many ways we can to that here. And thanks to @Laura, and everyone, for making this age group forum work. You're the best!

Hi there, I`m 68 now, lost my wife to cancer after 40 years together. It`s 10 years this November since she was torn from me in 2 short nightmare weeks, I miss her dreadfully still. I am only recently rebuilding my life, a "nervous breakdown and alcoholism intervened after she died....... I am only just learning to ask for help, pride gets in the way....

Had a bad day on Monday, did my shopping in a local supermarket and left my wallet on the self service checkout after picking up my groceries. Went back when I realized, but it had gone,no one handed it in...... Spent ages on the phone getting debit card stopped and new card on its` way. Also had to cancel store and reward cards, the automated phone system drove me insane, adding insult to injury! I want to speak to a HUMAN!!!!

Tuesday was better, my bank issued me with a weeks cash with no problem at all, a great relief.

Today I had a new Fridge/Freezer and Washing machine delivered - on time, and the guys installed then took away the old appliances in a mere half hour. They were funny too! Life is full of ups and downs, I guess we have to learn how to surf!

Hi DiNozzo. Sorry you started the week with such a dilemma. Glad the bank and others were so cooperative.

Glad to see you here. At least I know I am not the only 60+. :)

Too many people I know are either getting very old and fragile or are dying. No one warned me about this phase of life.

Of course, with loss of invincibility comes a new found freshness of life in this moment. I wouldn't trade this feeling for anything in the world.

The song, "Autumn Leaves", speaks volumes about this time of life. But so does "Beautiful Morning". It is all in perspective.

Oh this resonates so much with me @soulsings. As you say too many people getting older and fragile and dying. This is my experience too and its like many other experiences in life ... its not until you get here that you realize how tough this is... too many losses.

But we can treasure the moments and be thankful for the memories and the wisdom that they say comes with age. .And in the knowing that life is short determine to do what we can now. So these autumn years can be a blessing to our selves and others,

@rozie glad my comments resonate with yours. I am making the decision everyday to be present and here for whatever life brings. It is only my expectations that are constantly being disappointed. So who needs expectations? :)

@peacefulSoul8 there is life after 60 and 7 cups gives me the opportunity to share with others. Hope your mother will try, but if not that is okay too. You can lead the horse to water but can't make them drink. Works with people too!

Its okay @quickwittedYard2177,we're all on this journey of life and there's glitches and depression along the way. Who says you need to have it together by now? If anything ageing brings its own challenges and my experience tells me we're not prepared for these either. So congratulations on your 60th birthday! May this year and the following decade be good to you. Glad to have you join us.

Hi @quickwittedYard2177 - I understand how frustrating it is to work hard all your life and then approach "the golden years" and feel like life is throwing a curve ball. You are not alone. You may want to consider the self help guides on depression. They have helped me make adjustments in thinking and life style that have helped me improve my overall feeling of joy.

hi, I'm Danielle. I have all these things foing on and it seems like it simply is sucking the will to fo on each day. In order to be near my grandkids i had to move to houston. I live with my ex. i've no friends, no transportation, We love in a lovely senior community, however i'm not supposed to be living here, due to his lease and the rent criteria. This makes joining in all the activities here impossible. He is semi disabled, not motivated and the only place we go is to my daughters, up to 18 hours a day. He is fine with being there, helping her. however, i want more out of my life. i joined the gym, but can't go there unless i want to spend the rest of the day with them. I'm literally at their mercy. I feel isolated. I'm very healthy, fun loving, and want all there is to life. But here i sit, alone. withering....i cant see a way around all this. I can't afford to live on my own. So there aren't many options. What to do?

Hi and welcome Danielle. So glad you have joined us here. It sounds like you're not in an easy situation and I can understand how limiting this feels for you. Have you thought of walking.... perhaps joining a walking group... and getting out this way. Fresh air, new scenery and exercise are good for body mind and soul. I walk my dogs daily and know the benefits. And hope you enjoy being part of this community too. All the best.

The main struggle is to understand my place in society that amires the young, the quick, the up to date. I guess this is not new but now I have a voice.
