Feeling good enough to get a couple of things on my to do list done, and getting a couple of appointments out of the way. It feels good to get something completed. Its not much, but its not nothing either.
@amiablePeace77 Waking up this morning after a good night's sleep refreshed and ready to meet the day head on.
#smallpleasures!!!@soulsings
Been feeling good the last couple of days. Been writing some goals, working on feeling secure about who I am, and making progress towards my goals. Also re-watched the documentary "If you're not in the obit, eat breakfast!" Very inspiration movie about people who continue to be active in their 90s and beyond.
That sounds like a good documentary! Is it online? Im in the UK @Kavajava
@mooboxer
Very inspirational! Here are some links to it online:
Many thanks, when I get home I will look it up so thanks for the tip, appreciated!! And hugs to you x
@Kavajava
I was meditating yesterday morning and forthe first time had 'that moment'. That moment when I wasn't thinking, listening, or seeing. I just was. It didn't last long, but it left me with a feeling of happiness.
@MissPen
Hard to say which of these is happiest:
1. Finding out that my wife's kidney function is back to normal,
2. Finding out that we're "foster grandparents" for a couple of weeks, while my daughter is providing crash space for a homeless teen. Taking in strays is a family tradition, and I'm unspeakably proud of her for doing this.
That
@amiablePeace77 - My happiest moment was just sitting in the shade of a tree in my yard one day.
@kindofblue
kindoblue, sounds like having some quiet time just with yourself - lovely. Hope you will be able to do that more often.
@amiablePeace77 - me too!
Really struggling to figure out whats the point of trying anything at 50plus. Depressed, significantly overweight and starting to have more and more health issues. Mom and dad passed in the last two years, my 2 kids are grown and while not gone from the house, they have their own lives and no grandkids in the near future. Hubby is getting more and more focused on his own interests and isnt interested in doing anything he doesnt really want to. Especially not something someone else wants him to do. Im still working but its not much of a challenge and barely interesting anymore - though it pays the bills ;-)
Nothing Ive enjoyed in the past holds any joy. I cant imagine not going on, but still, whats the point of working to get healthy if I have little to look forward to? I know Ive been more fortunate than many, and do still help others since thats my nature, but I need something to give my life purpose
Anyone found a way to really enjoy life after family and career?
@JazzySC Three obvious things you could do are
* Pursue one of your hobbies, or take up a new one. Mine include writing, music and woodworking; knitting and crochet are also popular.
* Learn something new. A language, web design, etc. There are lots of free online resources. You could even change careers.
* Volunteer.
Any of these will keep you busy doing something you love, and provide opportunities to meet people.
Great advice Bear, I volunteer at my local charity shop, bike 3 miles to get there and it really lifts my spirits xx@stressBear
@stressBear, Thanks for the ideas.
I do sew memory bears for VITAS, but I cant come up with any hobbies or activities that interest me even though Ive had many over the years. Learning something new is a challenge as my memory and ability to focus have deteriorated too much and Im hoping my only next career is retirement ;-)
@JazzySC one of the things I did in the years working up to retirement is to start to experiment with yoga and volunteering and other things in my life to prepare for it.
@soulsings Good plan. I was totally unprepared; things got hectic and a lot of things fell through cracks.
@stressBear I was worried about being in a panic with all that time on my hands.
@JazzySC
Jazzy, sorry that your life is so difficult right now 🧡. You have received already some good ideas, I just wanted to share what helped me and that is my volunteer work at 7Cups, it gives me meaning. Having meaning in life is the most important thing to me and motivates us to wake up in the morning and prepare the day. I "push" myself to get out regularly to connect with my surroundings, with other people and also exercise regularly which keeps my motivation up
@amiablePeace77 Hi thanks to you and the other volunteers here. Maybe someday I will have the nerve to volunteer here(not ready yet). Its great that it is helpful to you while you are helping others
@adventurousBranch3786 thanks for your posts. Everyone that participates in the forum is already volunteering. Thanks for supporting the forums.
When you are looking for volunteering additional time, I am glad to discuss the options available to you. Just reply here or send me a PM.
@JazzySC I have struggled with what to do after career. In my area there is a center for people 50plus and it helps to attend activities there.
Easy. The happiest moment all week was seeing my girlfriend on Friday. She had been taking care of an old friend, and everythying had gone very well, so things were good.
Brilliantly put !!@Offmytrack
@Offmytrack
Offmytrack, nice to hear that, those are precious moments.
My Husband is partially retired which works well for both of us, he had taken up running and birdwatching, there is a lovely bird sanctuary near us, me I go for the fab soup!!! The birds are nice too x@amiablePeace77
