When Im in pain—physical or emotional—the kindest thing I can do for myself is : Acknowledge my pain, be kind to myself about how I'm feeling and ensure I have time for some self care (bath, cup of tea and a nice cookie ect) :)

@CuddlyLlama I agree with you in acknowleging the pain (in my case usually emotional). I take my time in asking myself where it's coming from - old wound? some current decision that didnt go the way I thought it should? And I do this bc before, I'd just yell at myself, name call and tell myself to grow up. Uh, yeah. Don't do that any more, as for me, growing up is to acknowledge the pain and then work to find a solution: be it forgive myself (when it's a current bad decision) or go deep and figure out if it's my story or a story someone assigned to me as a young'un. Reward myself: I take cleansing breaths and think "Dang. I done Good!" I give myself the rest of the day of mental high fives, back pats etc. then move on. I dont carry it any more. Is it as instanteous as I've posted here? No. Some deep wounds take time (I talk to Listeners) - I just try to deal with lil chunks at a time until I'm comfortable with my end answer.

Thanks for posting. I'm glad to hear someone else does acknowledgements.

Nice cuddlyLlama, I find baths are such a great way to wash of stress.

@amiablePeace77, I wish I had an answer to this. Wht I do is push myself through my usual routine for my day. Some of the things in my usual routine can sometimes take my mind off what is causing me pain and the pain. One example is that I come here. I caught the 50 plus session that just started today and it completely lifted my spirits. I don't have any one thing that comes to my mind as a kind thing that i can do for myself.

@purpleTree4652

Hi purpleTree, it seems that you never learned or unlearned to be kind to yourself and that's a tough place to be, hugs. I am glad tough that joining the 50+ session helps you to feel better. Some acts of kindness which help me are for example taking a warm bath with essential oils, going for a walk to connect with nature, listening to a self-love meditation.

This is a link for coping strategies which included many good things you can do for yourself. https://www.thepathway2success.com/100-coping-strategies-for-anger-anxiety-and-more/

I also find this video particularly nice https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7k7T3V9hl2I&feature=youtu.be

Sometimes it's also just enough to sit down, breathe deeply whilst hugging yourself. These are of course just things I like, I hope you will find something which helps you. heart

When I'm in pain, physical or emotional, the best thing I can do for myself is sleep. Our bodies work so many miracles but while we are sleeping, our bodies heal both physically and emotionally.

@Lauren63 sometimes that works for me. I usually try not to talk it out but instead work it out somehow

Isn't it kind to put suffering out of its misery?

User Profile: soulsings
soulsings June 14th, 2020

@HappyDucky8 what is suffering? It is our opinion on what is going on. It is our expectations disappointing.

If I am breathing I am thankful. I have learned so much from suffering. If it had not been for suffering I would never broken out of a safe little world I believed in till I found the world was so much different.

Suffering gives meaning to my life because it shows me how strong I am when strong is the only thing I can be.

@HappyDucky8 I am more stubborn than anyone I know.

No matter how bad things get I will never give up. I keep trying even when it does not make sense.

Persistence is a virtue that can form out of a determination to continue no matter what.

@amiablePeace77 -- yeah, ok, so this weekend I really needed the check in because it's the memorial of my mom's death tomorrow. I decided to donate in her name to a worthy cause. That immediately made me feel like she was working "through" me. Her spirit is still alive, her spirit that likes to support others and is always ready to make things better for another.

@PatienceImpatiens I am sorry for the loss of your mom even if years ago. Grief seems to continue on with me but I learn to be focusing on something besides my grief.
