Say Hello! We want to meet all 50 year old members!
Helllooooooo. I'm in my fifties. One of the important things I learned is how to spend time alone.
@yzzil
You are so right about learning not only to spend time alone, but to actually enjoy and occassionally prefer time alone. I love a good book, a cup of tea and listening to the rain hit the windows, while being surrounded by my little dog and rather huge cat. I do love my friends, but with the Internet, especially with Skype, it is hard for me to ever feel absolutely alone. I think being in my 50's is a blessing, I've learned to let go of all the small stuff and concentrate on what is important. It's nice to feel free to not have to impress anyone other than myself LOL :-)
HI Im Stewy, yeah over 50 but still loving life
@stewy
Good for you, me too, loving life more!!!
@stewy
That's amazing! I'm not 50, not even close, and having a difficult time loving life. Does loving life come with age!
I'm Laura. I'll be 50 on Sunday. I actually don't mind my age per se; what I mind very much is having lost most of my immediate family in the past three years. It puts things in perspective....
Hiya, I'm 52, have an elderly, disabled and rather cantankerous mum, plus other more complex problems regarding family issues.
Lovely to speak to some more mature people.
@braveSugar7964
Hi, I'm going to be 56 and I love cantankerous people, they speak their minds and are straight shooters. I come from a big family, seven brothers and just me, next to the youngest, so like you, I've learned to speak up but have also found my filter about the time I turned 50. Truly I needed to find it at 40 but like you, I had some family issues and wasn't ready to mellow yet. LOL I love being in my 50's because I feel free to not attempt to impress anyone or care about negative comments that years ago would have sent me to the moon. Today, I take it is stride and actually look to see if there is a grain of truth in what they are saying because I have come to realize, I don't know everything.....so freeing Look forward to talking to you in some of the forums
Happy early birthday!!!!!!
Thanks!
@LaaraNYC
Hi hon, I am so sorry that you have lost so many people recently, I know that it is a life facing experience. I was just talking to one of my brothers today about that because three years ago (it doesn't seem possible that much time has already passed) my favortie brother passed of diabetes complications. He would have been 60. Last year, my nephew Ethan passed, he was 15 with absolutely nothing physically wrong with him that anyone knew of. Autopsy reports came back negative for any kind of drugs, heart problems, anything and needless to say it was a shock and very sad. I have learned to try to enjoy every single day and treat it as though it could be my last and now mindfully consider my behavior, my remarks to people and in everything I do, I try to consider the questions, "is this helpful or is it hurtful?" No one knows what tomorrow will bring but we do have right now and shouldn't it be the best now we can achieve for ourselves? Be kind to yourself, you have entered the best part of your life, the time to fulfill and address your wants and needs.
I wish you all the best,
MsJessica55
@LaaraNYC
Nice to meet you Laura. I started loosing close people to me in my early 20s and it still happens. I do agree, what's important in life does change.
Hello everyone! I know I don't really belong here as I'm only 24, but I just wanted to welcome you all and say I'm very glad you are a part of the 7 Cups community. Also, I wanted to wish @LaaraNYC a very happy early birthday! 50 is such a milestone (I threw my Mom a surprise party) and I hope that someone does something very memorable for you! It's an incredibly special occasion that I hope you get to cherish. You deserve to have a fabulous day! Thank you in advance for letting us celebrate with you. :)
Thank you for introducing yourselves and I look forward to seeing you all around the forums.

I love being this age!!
Hi all. I'm also in my early 50's. I live in Canada. Nice to see this new section in the forums.
@MsT
Awesome!
i had my big 5-0 party last october, so don't have too much wisdom yet except that it takes longer to recover from injuries (recently went over my bike handlebars) and I appreciate things way more than ever before.
Just remember to wear your cape the next time you go flying. 😊
also those gloves that protect the heels of your hands (hooves)
Sigh I went over the bars too. Gashed my eyebrow pretty good.
Haven't biked since....think I will just walk ;0/
Hello, I too am over 50.....not sure how I feel bout this.....
Hey trying!! Welcome to our clubhouse!! 😃
@tryingtofarm52
It will be the best time of your life, the kids are grown and hopefully you have the time now to concentrate on YOU. Something most of us put off until about this time in our lives. At 50, you don't need a date to go out to a nice restaurant for dinner or even a movie and at 50 you are free to like yourself exactly as you are and not care what others think. The fifty's are so freeing!!
Hi. I'm 55 and dealing with severe depression, social anxiety, bipolar and degenerative disc disorder. I'm here just to find others I can relate with that are not kids like most I have found on here.
Hey Gman. You sound a lot like me lol. 55, depressed, social anxiety, degenerative disc disease …. Oh I also have post concussion syndrome. Welcome aboard!!
Thank you. I am glad this thread is here as I have felt pretty much like I really didn't really belong on this site and now am feeling much better about this site.
How ya doing today?
Hey @yzzil yesterday was not too bad. Been sitting in the dark all morning since 4am today. Had some really weird dreams and my anxiety is going through the roof. Even though I took my meds, I'm not doing great today. I want to just hole up in my place and keep the world at bay.
@Gman1246, I'm sorry to hear that you're struggling today. I totally understand that feeling of a iery knocking down the door and wanting to find a quiet dark place. Hang in there. It will pass. Yesterday was ok, today not so good, tomorrow could be ok too!!
@Gman1246
Hey Gman, nice to meet you. I am disabled with both neck and spinal disc problems from a horrible car accident and suffer daily, but I fight it because the alternative scares me. Someday I will have to have surgery, but I have seen the outcome of others, so for now I choose to live with the pain and function the best i can. It helped that the doctors gave me a 50/50 chance of being immediately paralyzed if I get the surgery or 100% down the road if I wait too long, so I am biding my time.
I was also lucky enough to have doctors that actually listen to me and have put me on medication for depression, which has helped enormously. I still use ice and heat along with a limited amount of pain medication to control my level of pain. I get severe headaches from having a concussion that occurred on impact but with an at home traction neck appliance, I am able to alleviate a good deal of it so that I can continue to work and function and continue with my education. If I didn't have goals, a good support system and the ability to believe that tomorrow will eventually be better, I might not have made it this far.
Don't beat yourself up for the things you cannot do right now but praise yourself for everything you can do. Seriously, reward yourself on a weekly basis. Make small goals, such as everyday, every single day, I will do one thing I thoroughly enjoy (which can be as small as a candy bar and special coffee or as big as watching four hours of your favorite shows).
Always remember to be kind to yourself, why, because you are so worth it!!!
