Say Hello! We want to meet all 50 year old members!
Hi all I am 52 yrs old and I think this thread is great .
Hi! I'm an apothisexual, pansexual, gender fluid cisgender asexual person who goes by the pronouns tuh, twh, Sef and Gah.........
Sorry! I just had a bang on the head and thought for a moment I was a ditzy mid-teen American schoolgirl SJW with blue hair and a pierced nose..........
I'm not.
@AmonDuullard
one easy way to try to prop up our own identity is in contrast to things that make us uncomfortable about other people (colored hair, pejorative concepts like SJW) but that hardly seems like the most healthy available approach to me.
Hi y'all! I've just joined and am looking for people my age to discuss life with...I'm 52, wife, mother of 3, grandmother of 2. Ive struggled with depression, anxiety, and panic disorder for over 20 years. Probably since childhood, but not diagnosed till I was about 35. I've been thru the medication merry go round and am now focusing on my spiritual path to keep peace in my world in between the storms that rise up in my mind with as little medication as possible. Today was an "ok" day, I was functioning, and tomorrow is a mystery. For now I'll look around an hopefully fall I love with this app and find some new fellow mid lifers and help each other out.
@MysoulMylife52 Welcome!! I understand your merry-go-round and am glad you found 7cups!!
@MySoulMyLife52
maybe we need a "mid-life and beyond" chatroom, too?
To infinity and beyond?
@bravesugar7964. Lmao.
Beyond what?? Lol
@MySoulMyLife52
WELCOME, you've come to the best place you could possibly be. My name is MsJessica55 and I am only a few credits away from receiving my B.S. in Psychology. From there I will continue my education until I receive my doctorate. I, myself have been through a great deal in my life, dealing with bipolar disorder in my family, schizophrenia, alcoholism, substance abuse disorders and children who are on the autism spectrum as well as service and non-service connected PTSD. I am non-judgmental but I do have a faith based outlook on life. I believe that people are inherently good and want to be happy, but because of obstacles in life (dysfunctional family, loss of income, chemical imbalance, substance abuse dependency, depression, panic attacks or phobias) people are unable to attain their goals and are living a modified life instead of a joyous life. I am here to listen and be supportive. I will be online Mon, Tues, Thur, Fri 6-9 P.M. EST if you want to talk privately 1-1
Um, hello everyone and please don't kick me out of your chat because I'm 36 and I know this is for 50 somethings.
I tried the regular chat and ended up getting advice from 20 year olds. The 30s thread doesn't seem very active. I think if I'm to learn anything and get better it's likely to come from 50 somethings who know a thing or two.
I'm a very old soul if that counts at all :)
Who I am .... someone who woke up at the age of 35 and realised I'd been unhappy my whole life and desperately want to change that. This year I've started seeing a psychologist, doing loads of reading on depression, trying alternative cures, and forcing myself to move more and more outside my comfort zone.
Happy to be here, hope you'll have me :)
@tidyDay4536 welcome. We may be older but not out of the game yet! Lol. Happy to have you join us.
@yzzil
thanks!
@tidyDay4536
welcome! i'm sure no one will kick you out :)
i think waking up and realizing at any point that you are unhappy and want to do something about it probably counts as a good day, a beginning!
@KrinkTheMellowUnicorn
thanks krink!
@tidyDay4536 - you bet! and here's to getting outside our comfort zones!
@tidyDay4536
WELCOME, glad to have you!!!
Hi! I'm T and I turned 50 a few months ago and became a listener here about a year ago.
I have mixed feelings about being 50. I'm definitely happier and wiser than I've ever been but I'm dealing with physical pain more often (mostly in my arm, back, and neck due to 30+ years of computer use) and I'm going through "the change" (menopause) and hoping that once that passes, I'll be feeling physically better more often.
Also, I need dental work because a tooth cracked and my eyes are sh*t and as we all know, dental/vision bills are super high and for many of us, it's a financial burden.
My diet and exercise routine is great and I'm in the best shape of my life. I'm excited about life now that they kids are all on their own and I've figured out how to be happy while alone but, at the same time, I'm looking forward to, and anticipating death in a welcoming way to get out of this now painful body that is obviously NOT going to last forever and this has led me into meditation more so than ever which is also a good thing.
My renewed interest in this type of "spiritual stuff" I was into in my 20s along with the new knowledge I've acquired has led me into another good thing--volunteering both here on this site, as a hospice worker, and on the streets.
Did you guys know that Generation X is comprised of people who were born in or around 1965 through the early 80s? This means that Generation X is turning 50! I say, "Look out world! Gen X is coming into power (so let's not fu*k it up guys)!"
@TeaWithAFriend
I'm also getting into the best shape of my life at 50. Whodathunkit?
@KrinkTheMellowUnicorn
Whenever someone in their 50s said they were in the best shape of their life, I was like "Yeah right." Live and learn, huh?
@TeaWithAFriend
too true. then again i sort of specialized in "benign neglect" for my first 30-40 years or so
Hi
I am a twice divorced mother of two. The word that reverberates through my skull and best describes me is broken. Sadly, I cannot pinpoint the exact moment of breakage. I do know that I seem to be reluctant or incapable of putting the pieces of me back together again.
I was recently told, not for the first time, that I seem to have zero confidence. This was not news to me except that I thought I was doing an okay job hiding out. I now face a looming 2016 full of fear that I'm a year closer to nothing. How do you stop abhorring yourself and how does one know how to be whole. I feel like the commercial...I've fallen and can't get up except instead of having fallen, I've somehow broken myself or worse, idly stood by while others broke me.
@Anniebgud
you ask really hard questions that a lot of us can probably relate to.
i don't think i have the answers.
i do have a feeling that the way to wholeness goes through some form of acceptance of what is not perfect or not perfectly whole. That is, somehow being compassionate towards ourselves and our own "broken" parts seems to be an important first step.
Hello everyone. I turned 50 last month and while the number itself doesn't bother me my feeling of inadequacy does. I've spend the last three days on my couch feeling pretty crappy. I currently see a psychiatrist and have a prescription for meds but am unable to afford them. And i woke up this morning realizing I have no friends, i have acquaintances.
@Blue65 - I think I know just what you mean. When I turned 50 I started judging myself by some new higher standard called "by now I should have" ... i have to really try to resist that.
Hello, my name is MsJessica55 (I will be 56 soon), and I am only a few credits away from receiving my B.S. in Psychology. From there I will continue my education until I receive my doctorate. I, myself have been through a great deal in my life, dealing with bipolar disorder in my family, schizophrenia, alcoholism, substance abuse disorders and children who are on the autism spectrum as well as service and non-service connected PTSD. I am non-judgmental and I love ALL people because all the differences is what makes life so exciting and wonderful. For those of you in the military, I have a father who was a Marine and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery, 7 brothers who all served (including 4 in Vietnam, and now a son and son-in-law who are both in the Navy. My husband died years ago while serving his country. So I have a passion and compassion for all those who serve. I am physically disabled and unable to go out and about very much without help, so this wonderful, beautiful, caring sight lets me reach out to others and continue to feel useful in my life and well as keeping me on my path to fulfill my dreams.
@MsJessica55 - welcome!
Hi, I am plushTouch35 and am 51 years old. I have been a listener here since July 2015. I first learned about this site by taking classes for my master's degree in Counseling and have found it to be rewarding and helpful. I now have my master's degree at the age of 51 and continue to enjoy lifelong learning.
@plushTouch35 - very cool on multiple levels.
so are we 51 or are we just 17 for the third time now?
@plushTouch35
That is fantastic, that is also how I found this site, needing to do an Internship, but I am not doing it until January 18th and have been online since the middle of September of last year because it is such a great learning experience as well as being able to connect with some really wonderful people. I love it!
Hello everyone I'm actually 49 but I will be 50 next month. Actually took me 15 minutes to decide whether to enter the 40's or the fifties chat room. Ha. It's been a long day and my energy level is a bit low now but I just couldn't help popping in once I found this forum for people closer to my age. Joining 7 cups seems to put a smile on my face at least once a day one way or the other. Looking forward to meeting you all have a great evening.
@helpfulVase1202 - welcome!
50 is the new 40 :)
@KrinkTheMellowUnicorn
Ty krink! Sorry it took me this long to find my way back to my post. But I think I'm figuring my way around here. I see your name on here a lot mostly because it's so unique. You must be super busy on here thank you for taking the time to welcome me. Most appreciated.
@helpfulVase1202 - I work here or else I'd probably post a bit less :). but I am also in this age group and would love to see more people feel welcome here.
@KrinkTheMellowUnicorn
Good one!
