Here's a little fun thread. Yesterday my son had a soccer game. I recorded some of it on my phone and when I told him I "taped" some of the game he said "no body tapes anything anymore". I still reference "taping" a movie or tv show when I save it to my stuff on streaming. Even when I used DVR I was taping television shows. What are some words or phrases, or even things that you used or did in the past, that are basically obsolete but you still use today?

When I say "camera" I actually mean "camera" not "smartphone" lol.
I get that. My girlfriend has an 800 dollar digital camera with a very expensive zoom lens she uses regularly for nature photography. Most young people today wouldn't know how to use one of those. Thanks for participating.

I texted my BFF this morning and asked her if she remembered having to use a map to drive around. I thought it would be funny to hand one to my son one day and ask him to help me turn lol
That is a great answer. I remember when you could get a map at every gas station. Do they even sell or make them anymore?

We say snap for picture 📸. We also say dial up someone on the phone sometimes lol 😂 . My hub today talking about anti virus software on cd no such thing now lol 😂…,
Those are all great answers. I remember the first time my son actually saw a landline telephone. He picked it up and heard a dial tone and asked what the noise was. I immediately felt like I had failed as a parent lol...up until then he had only known cell phones and seen landlines on tv.

Ha... my hubby and I were just talking about this the other day. As we discussed having "Cassette" tapes back in the day.
How kids today know Nothing of our struggles in listening to a cassette tape, having it get all tangled, having to "un-tangle" it and still try to listen to your favorite song that is now all "gargled" up! lol...
And also, hearing your favorite song come on the radio, and having that same cassette tape ready to go so that you can be sure to record it when it comes on. The hassles of making sure you had enough space on it, or trying to find the 'right' area of the tape to "tape over" something else! lol...Or the saddest part of all, only getting to record "Half or Part" of the song because you weren't there to hear it when it first came on! So you only got to record some of it, and had to be happy with it until it came back on the radio again (whenever that would be)?!! lol

Ahhhh, cassette tapes.....remembering the struggle.....My dad's car had an 8 track player in it.... I went and bought an 8 track to cassette adapter for the car when I got my license and started using his car lol.....

This is a great idea.....In this day of fast paced, immediate gratification with social media, texting and messaging, I agree that writing out a letter by hand, in my opinion, does show a greater form of love, caring and personalization. I still mail birthday, anniversary, Christmas card, etc. with little notes in them. I feel its more personal that way. I'm afraid with the up and coming generations, all that will eventually go away. I remember when I was in grammar school we had a "pen pal" program with students from another school in another state. I think I wrote my pen pal 2 or three times back and forth then it stopped. I don't remember anything else about it but looking back, it would have been nice to remain in touch and see how things turned out.

@CyclingThroughLife, I love this trip down memory lane! Last Christmas I posted watercolor painted cards to my close family. I loved creating individual ones, adding their pets and special presents for each one. Imagine my delight when I visited later in the new year and they were sitting on the mantelpiece in a beautiful frame!
This is great thread, I still have a walkman with tapes. LOLOLOL. my kids are in their 30s and do remember asking to play with it and that I said no-- thats why I still have it and it works lol. I dont use it but its great conversation !!

Having a walkman that still works must be great. You should hold onto that piece of history and pass it on to your grandchildren. As far as technology is concerned, I think the cassette walkman was better than when they switched to CD's....if you moved the thing, the CD would skip....I could never use it for my workouts like I could the cassette walkman....

Referring all things as Glass no matter whether they are cups,mugs and etc.
I never thought as that as being a part of this thread. That is a good answer. With me though, everything I drink from that is in the cabinet is a cup....whether it's glass, plastic, a coffee mug, etc...If someone is already going into that cabinet I'll ask them to get me a cup, and usually il stuck with whatever I get lol....
With that said, do you have a favorite glass, cup or mug you like to drink from? I have two...one mug for tea and coffee, and a favorire glass for other drinks....
@CyclingThroughLife I am very fussy I will use a mug but it has to be China, I dislike thick rims lol
@Helpyhelper10564 what about using a cup and saucer 😱 before the advent of mugs in homes they were only for builders and workmen.

I still call records albums, but they haven't made records since the previous millennium. And I begin every store with "The" The Walmart, The ABC Warehouse. #WeTheNewOldPeople
I ran across this on another social media site....I felt it was appropriate for this thread....I was taught 2 spaces in typing class in 1985 and when typing out something "official" I still do it. Old habits are hard to break. Since we are on the subject, who remembers the difference between "pica and elite"?
