I think most physical illnesses or issues can be seen ...... or understood... but mental illness all seems like a spectrum and the same diagnosis can be different for many people ........ in comparison a broken limb is same for almost everyone.

people are often worried about saying the wrong thing and find the solution to that is to say nothing at all.

yes however 7cups provides that avenue to discuss explore mental health issues and support. But yes mental health is not accepted much typically not sure why…. I hesitate to share my mental struggles bc I feel it would not be understood …

My Theory

“People talk openly about some physical health issues …”

Physical is exactly that. It is a tangible, measureable, and it is openly and widely discussed. Turn on the tv or open a magazine over the last 30 years and you will find drug advertisements (in the United States) for all things from ED, Heart, and Skin.
If you have found such 'issue' then take this pill or see this doctor and it will be resolved.

It has been discussed more frequently in the US, but nowhere near as much or as long as the physical health. American Society over repeated decades (and century) has created what is a ‘Man’ and a ‘Woman’. And everyone is judged and sentenced by such idealism.

For females and mental health, it is looked down upon. ‘She is damaged, over emotional, crazy, etc’

For males and mental health, it is looked down upon. ‘He is weak. He is a sissy. He is gay. He is weak minded. Men are not emotional. He is less of a man'

No pill or doctor will fix you in a day or a week or a month.
It is a long process with proper support, unconditional love, open acceptance, and judgement fee help.

@amiablePeace77. There are even some physical illnesses that are hard to talk about and stigmatized. I even find it difficult to talk about certain physical illnesses.
