I would have changed jobs and worked in the city and had more opportunity to have the life I was hoping for.
@caringPanda45 Which skills or information that you have learnt by now changes that?
@SoulfullyAButterfly a crystal ball :P but yeah just learn to accept what life is now. do my own thing and not be accountable to anyone else. Luckily my training and experience working aids me in that.
@caringPanda45
You can still move to the city if you really want to!! What is stopping you from that? πππ!!
@GuardianAngel77 Cost of living :) and too old. Missed out on so much I wanted in life.
@caringPanda45 I live in a city and understand how it can be costly. But there are other things that make up for living in a smaller space. One of my favorites is being surrounded by more artists and young adults that inspire me and keep me young. Also access to carshares, bikeshares and tool libraries makes the downsizing easier. So, if you are ever curious about making the transition Im happy to chat. Sounds like you are happy at the moment and that is great. ![]()
If I could have, I would have gone to medical school. It was my dream, and I let it slip away.
@carefreeHeart57 aw, thats a good one - a year ago, I didn't get into medical school either, but quickly found a great other field I was passionate about, and so don't really regret it anymore - what other path did you choose?
I would have been born in France.
@Zengrl
Why do you want to be born in France? πππ?
@GuardianAngel77 The country values education, art and food. The language is beautiful amd I
@Zengrl
So you been there!! Awesome!!
Yes I can understand that! You feel at home there. ππππ! Why don't you move there?
Knowing what I know now I would have been more serious about my education so that I could be who I was meant to be in a field that I loved. I am on a correctional course right now... at 50.
@JolivetteListens
You are serious now about you're education!! ππππ!! Right?? Then study then. Study in the fild that you want to. πππ!!
@GuardianAngel77 Yeeeeessss!
@JolivetteListens
ππππ!
@JolivetteListens
Who you meant to be and that you would be happy in the field. Tell me more about this.
You can change anything that you don't like!! You should be happy with you're job, with your life. πππ!!
@GuardianAngel77 I was meant to be in the psychology and sociology fields. I
@JolivetteListens
Great for you!! ππππ!
@JolivetteListens that one rings true of me too. But I had serious concerns in college so I am not going to be too hard on myself.
@JolivetteListens I have always told my students there is no such thing as one career.
Good for you for following through on your dreams!
@Zengrl Thanks for those wise words.
@JolivetteListens hugs to you
@SoulfullyAButterfly
Two things:
1. From the Pink Floyd song Time.
"You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you.
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun."
The future starts now, get a running!
2. Screw you Mom & Dad! I know whats best for me and I won't follow the career you picked out for me.
I know what will make me happy and sucessful. I am going to to do what I want.
@Positron2
Very enlightning and energetic Posi - and amazing lyrics of course!
As for doing what you want, I applaud that - not easy to break social or other boundaries even in terms of career paths, and I wish you all the best!
@SoulfullyAButterfly breaking social boundaries has been what I've done most of my life. Only when I cow-towed to social expectation on the things that were important to me did i make myself truly miserable. I had to figure out what is right for me, no matter what societal expectations were, and then i found true happiness. listen to your inner-self... let your mind wander a bit and listen. see what you hear.
@SoulfullyAButterfly I would start out helping people since this has been the most rewarding work I have done here at 7cups.
@soulsings I remember reading an article about our 'vocation' not necessarily being just about a career or job, but more of our purpose in life. Sometimes our purpose is part of our 'job's, but maybe our purpose is not limited to the 'job'. Maybe a purpose, like you mentioned, 'helping people', the job is only part of it, but because it is your purpose, it permeates all parts of your life. You like helping people, like on here, but I would guess you also help people in other parts of your life... picking up something an elderly person dropped in a store, or reaching for that high item they can't reach, things like that... I suspect your helping on here has made you feel very useful and that is a wonderful rewarding thing. That's so great and I'm proud that you shared that with us. Thank you.
@inventiveHouse2965 thanks so much for your kind words. Being at 7cups is like wearing an old shoe that fits my foot so comfortably. I hope people are helped in some way. I know I am.
@SoulfullyAButterfly
Hi Everyone ,
You never too old to do the career or go to college or to do training!!! πππππ!!
Y'all can do anything!!! ππππ!!
If you want to change something you can do it!! ππππ!!!
Thank you for sharing this fact @GuardianAngel77
@SoulfullyAButterfly
You're welcome! πππ!
@SoulfullyAButterfly
I would have rather studied psychology and helped people, but this option was somehow not on the plate for me at that time. I loved my job but my heart was elsewhere. I feel more me working as a listener here.
We are all very glad to have you @amiablePeace77 - it is great that you find this role satisfying.
I went back to school when I was 27. I have the career I always wanted. Thats where I am most OK. My personal life sucks and I actually hate being off for any length of time. I am not an interesting or personable person. But I have enjoyed reading this feed. To those contemplating school or furthering your education, if you dont now? When? You can . I worked full time at night. Went to school during the day. You can do it! Take care all.
@Lauren63 thanks for sharing your path. I appreciate that you share your insights and encouragement to others.
I was not a very outgoing person but I had to go into sales or the position I was in was going to go away. It changed me so I am more personable than I was. People can change by trying new patterns. It worked that way for me.
@soulsings I can small talk. And sometimes my patients tell me stuff they wouldnt say to family or friends, because they know they probably wont see me again. I have been angry here. Not because of anything that was said. Everyone here has been helpful and I appreciate that. And I will try to do better. I hope you have a good day. Take care.
@Lauren63 I appreciate you sharing some of what you face every day. Medical field is tough because they expect you have to put on a good face even if you do not feel it inside.
Glad you are here. We all have challenges. I have been struggling with anger for years. It is not quick or easy but there is a way through it.
I would have travelled and travelled and travelled. Forever. Staying in new hotels, visiting new cities and countries, trying new cuisines, explore new places...
@marvelfangirl sounds very interesting. My problem was I always ran out of money.
@soulsings
Lmao sammmmeeeee
@marvelfangirl
That would be surely nice, I love travelling too
but money would be an issue to see the whole world. thankful for all the kind of "discovery" channels, youtube allowing us to learn about other countries and cuisines.
@amiablePeace77 maybe we all can invest into virtual reality and trick our minds, or have technology partially transport us all around the world.
@SoulfullyAButterfly
true, i am grateful for today's technology. just called spock to beam me up
@amiablePeace77
Very true. Like the famous quote says: "If travelling was free, you'd never see me again."
I relate to this quote on a very deep level π
