Can you ever recover from social anxiety?
When I was a teenager, I felt rather timid and bruised for often being judged and bullied in elementary school.
For me, it was a matter of acceptance?acceptance of the fact that I had been hurt, and that I was afraid, and that things didn't have to be this way.
I had to reconfigure this mindset with logic, too. I thought, "What could I have to lose if I just put myself out there, was myself, and treated people nicely? Nothing, right?" With a bit of luck and the set of peers that happened to be at my high school, things turned outalright. I am no longer socially anxious like I was from early high school.
Hope this helps!
I think an important trick is to first recognize why you are feeling this way. Did it come from a specific event or time in your life; or is this just a part of your personality that may make you shy or timid? Most people with social anxiety can talk to people in small doses. I recommend practicing, just like anything else. Some individuals did not develop those skills as strongly and just practicing in small doses can help.
Letting yourself to make a mistake sometimes.
I overcame it on that way: Ideliberately did something that seemed embarrassing to me. And then I was free.
Letting yourself to live free life is actually self-respect. Do something you was always scared of doing. I support you guys![]()
And yes, social anxiety can be cured. I'm recovering, and it got better. Hope you all will feel better soon.
Lots of love![]()
You saved my day by reminding me of it, now I'm no longer lost.
Getting out of our comfort zone is the best thing to do to overcome social anxiety !
Challenging oneself to talk to more people a day and opening conversation in the store or with strangers, it might feel difficult and uncomfortable but it will definitely boost one's self confidence and develop fearlessness from people.
Acceptance.
Accept yourself for being who you are, accept others'judgment/criticisms and make them your guide to be a better person.
@Laura you absolutely can overcome social anxiety, it is a long process sometimes for many people but it can be done with consistant and reachable goals and working with a therapist. Dont push yourself too hard to go and face the fears but create a hierarchy of steps starting with something super simple and slowly work up the ladder, keep repeating a step until it becomes easy. It is also important to retrain your mind to process thoughts and emotions in a way that isnt from a perspective of having social anxiety. :)
