Leadership Spotlight: Star001

We're delighted to recognize the achievements of one of our bright mentors, @Star001. Star joined our listener family in Feb of 2020. They are a Quality Mentor, who works on the Anonymous Evaluations Team as well as a member of the Safety Patrol Team and Listeenr Verifying Team. They’re also a Chatroom Mentor who provides chat and peer support!

They have been a great support system for Listener Chatrooms and obviously very encouraging for everyone in the community, who put their best foot forward to help everyone.

An interview with Star!
What motivates you to be a volunteer?: I felt always like I have a purpose in my life, that I don’t live without reason. I have a higher mission to accomplish. Since in my life, I have known what it looks like to be alone, and I had to figure out a lot of things by myself, I cherish every opportunity to show the pathway and be a guiding light for others, in a way I never had.

Your proudest 7 cups achievement: My proudest achievement was my very first role here on 7 cups, when I became a quality mentor. I remember coming across a set of leadership roles and going like… “Oooo I do fulfill all eligibility requirements for becoming a quality mentor, why not give this a try?”. I did not really believe in myself if I am being honest. I doubted myself and I really just gave it a shot. I even erased the entire application form after applying, but thankfully I filled it out again and submitted 😊 I got contacted like within a week by the quality ambassador at the time and soon after I came into my very first role. Being a quality mentor opened up doorways of opportunity for me to learn and explore my capabilities and 7 cups allowed me that, I am very grateful. If by this I could send out a message to anybody reading – do not give in to your inhibitions, you do not know your potential!

Which 7 cups leaders do you admire and why?: I admire all leaders on 7 cups, and fellow listeners for every bit of their contribution towards our community. Some 7 cups leaders especially, have a great sense of humor which makes me think of how they have so much responsibility on their shoulders but still don’t fail from sharing a smile, and laughing together with everyone!

Which active listening skills help you when communicating with your teammates and fellow leaders?: Empathy, more than anything. In our day to day, we may forget to realize the power of empathy and understanding on others. With patience, boundaries and honest communication, a lot can be mastered.

What are your future goals as a part of this community?: I am very happy with my current roles on 7 cups. I am optimally utilizing my capabilities on here and I feel very satisfied. I have about 6 roles at this time and I am happy I was able to identify and get involved in roles that brought out the best in me. In the near future, I may apply for another role in the chatroom track. I think our collectively built 7 cups community is only growing and I am looking forward to continue creating a meaningful difference!
