Talker: @Londo

What is your idea of spending a balanced time on 7cups? Share your idea of how a good day looks like on 7cups, for you.

My idea of a balanced time on 7cups is honestly whatever you’re comfortable doing. For me, that is usually opening up the site and mentally prepping myself to listen for about 5 minutes, and then just listen and do my best for 1-2 hours. Going past that point makes me feel drained, and I get that way if I do it every day as well, so I only do it a few days a week.

What challenges did you face in trying to strike that balance?

I started at the same time as exam season was winding up, so I had a lot of outside things to deal with as well.

How did you try to deal with those challenges?

I made the mental decision to push 7cups stuff to the side and work on stuff in my daily life, and open it when I could, typically only on the weekends.

What are the benefits of improving your balance for the time you spend on cups?

I was able to get all my stuff done in my personal life, and was ready to give my members 100% of my attention and focus.

What message would you like to give to the cupsers who have come to be negatively attached to cups, in one of the many ways?

Too much of anything can be a bad thing, for listeners, you can’t heal the world, you need to be able to have time for your private life, you can’t help others if you aren’t in a stable place yourself. For members, you need time to work on your private lives too, all the help in the world doesn’t mean anything if you don’t take the time to act on it.

New user, just need a mini outlet that allows me to cycle in positive reinforcing and encouraging proverbs, sayings and quotes, have to get better at structure my self better with books, contacts and counsel. Even the smallest words can be enough to vamp me back up to pushing my self through frustration and road blocks.

To being more organized, to me these type of sites are a good outlet, but I’m more of a on hands gonna guy, sound counsel is always the best, in person and collaborating, reproof and understanding to promote more discernment of my shortcomings and make me acknowledge when I’m over my head or the goals are feasible. I often major in minor and have to get back into majoring in major things and don’t have the right resources but it can be challenged with the right amount of resourcefulness.

I’m always to hard on myself because I work so hard and still fall short, so I’m grateful that some of y’all encouraged me and let me know somewhere out there some one cares.

Will do my best to get unstuck and follow through, as we have enough resources for us to not just get by but to thrive. Just have to tune into the right counsel, have the right acolytes, one up on our duties and priorities and always follow through, like the saying goes 80% of success is showing up. So as long as I get to my 3 pillars, my checkpoints to digest and cycle in the right content, we can pull ourselves out of any rut and get to the prosperity.

Thanks 7 cups, my cup is half full, will need to fill it up and need be, get a bigger cup.

Roger that.

@Clarisse29 @Londo

A lovely interview. I loved the answer on focusing on our important priorities, and doing that sometimes requires us to push us some things, but as long as we can give our full, undivided attention to the things that we are doing now, making priorities is important indeed. I loved all the answers. Thank you once again for this interview post. Kudos to the team

"...all the help in the world doesn’t mean anything if you don’t take the time to act on it."

Most realistic statement in the post. Excellent.

What does your five minutes of mental prep look like? Are you meditating or something? Tia

I'll usually just crank on some slow music and relax for a minute or two and tell myself that the member I'm gonna talk to deserves my best, and I'll maybe look through an old chat for something good I did last time that I'd want to do again. Then whenever I'm ready(usually 5 minutes) I start the chat.

Awesome Clarisse for doing this interview! And Londo this was really inspiring to read. :) I really enjoyed reading about how you were able to manage your time between 7cups and your personal life. I agree with a lot of what you said, especially this important message you mentioned that struck out: "whatever you're comfortable doing". As a listener involved in a number of leadership roles, this is a good reminder for me to not push myself too hard and embark in my 7cups journey step by step rather than forcing myself to do more than I can handle. For me personally, I am able to devote my time on here an hour per day, but some people may do more or less than that. And that's perfectly okay. I'm reassured by your post because it reminds us that no matter how little we spend out time here, we're contributing to the 7cups community. :)

As a university student myself, the part where you mention exam season really hit close to home for me because I also have the same experiences as you when it comes to managing between exams 7cups. I'm sure other listeners here attending school can also relate to this.

Again, I really enjoyed reading this post, especially when you mentioned how too much of anything is a bad thing. As a listener, I felt reassured by this because I never have to feel guilty anymore taking time off from 7cups simply because I feel burnt out. You're absolutely right here, like you said we can't offer the best help we can if we're not in a stable place ourselves.

"For members, you need time to work on your private lives too, all the help in the world doesn't mean anything if you don't take the time to act on it."

This quote of yours really hit hard for me because as a member for over a year, I can personally relate to my experiences of speaking with members who demand all my time and effort to help them through their issues except they don't put that same time and effort to help themselves. Londo this is a really good message to put out there for members, as this is a really good reminder that us listeners are humans too with lives and feelings, and also really good to remind them that nothing can solve their issues unless work is done in their own lives.

This was such a lovely interview. Again, thank you Londo and Clarisse!

Thank you! I honestly thought my responses were kinda short, but I'm glad you were able to take some things from it. Listening is really rewarding, but all things in moderation, your own life always has to come first, otherwise you're no help to anybody if your own life isn't in a stable place first.
