Hi Community!

Today, we will talk about healthy habits to replace drinking alcohol/drug use. At first it may seem like a daunting and impossible task to even think about replacing your drug/alcohol usage with something else, but studies have shown that it can be very beneficial in helping reduce consumption of drugs and alcohol.

Please note: drug dependency should be tailored to your own individual needs in a treatment setting as the withdrawal effects can be dangerous.

Discussion: What are your healthy habits that help you to decrease/abstain from using drugs? - This discussion can focus on fun and healthy activities that you can do to replace the time and energy once spent on drinking or drug use, such as taking up a new hobby, trying out a new workout routine, or taking a cooking class.

My healthy habit today is drinking herbal tea and letting my meds work for me 💪🏻

I hope you get to join a cooking class soon! :) I've heard from others who like to cook that it helps them broaden their cooking skills with a social aspect too.

I have not found anything that provides what alcohol provides.

I went to rehab for 12 days, once out it took 6 hard months before I no longer wished to drink.

My sobriety date is 12/11/2019.

Firstly, congratulations on remaining sober for nearly 4 years. That is a huge achievement and one that I know was likely incredibly difficult for you to do. What do you think helped you to work on your recovery and what were some of the positive lessons that you learned along the way? Please share only if you feel comfortable to do so. Thank you for dropping by too!

For me the motivation was will power and the hope that once I got sober I could go back to my life. This didn’t happen to be the case. Once I no longer desired alcohol I also no longer had much desire for anything.

Since then I have been drifting from one thing to another trying to find a reason to continue. This search has been fruitless.

The lesson here is, Alcohol is not the problem. It is only a symptom of a larger problem.

Thank you for being so honest and sharing your experiences here. I hope you find something that works for you and brings you meaning in life. Keep coming to 7 Cups and sharing how you are feeling, if this is something that helps you. Someone is always around which is the beauty of 7 Cups. Excellent work on your sobriety and maintaining sobriety too. I hope you've been able to also find local resources that help you in your recovery too. 🌻
