Living with constant anxiety is exhausting

For a long time, I thought my anxiety was just part of my personality. I functioned, worked, showed up — but inside, my mind was always on edge. Even on “good” days, there was this background tension I couldn’t switch off. It wasn’t panic, just a constant feeling of bracing myself for something.

What surprised me most was how much energy anxiety quietly takes. By the end of the day, I wasn’t lazy or unmotivated — I was mentally drained from being alert all the time. Learning to notice that has helped me be a little kinder to myself, even when I don’t have all the answers yet.

Thank you for sharing this💗 I think people often think of anxiety as being a mental battle, and in many ways it is. That said - when our nervous system is over aroused like it is during episodes of anxiety, our body goes into fight/flight mood, and the physical effects can definitely have a significant impact. I encourage others to be kind to their mind and body, and try your best to give yourself what you need during those moments.

@amelliasmith You said it best when you described it as constant bracing for something. It always feels like you’re waiting for the moment right before disaster. And it truly is an exhausting experience.

@amelliasmith. Can totally relate.  I wake up with anxiety and wonder what part of my body will be hurting me today.  I can’t take much more of this. I feel like I’m losing my mind at times
