hello! I havent been on here in awhile but I'm feeling overwelmed with anxiety/fear in regards to news of pending war (US). Some background about me is that I was raised in a Christian household and so although I'm not currently following a "christian lifestyle "- the Christian beliefs I was tought are engrained in me and are impossible to forget. My issue is that on top of world events - my My father who is catholic is constantly sending me messages to pray and how our time is up and God is coming soon and that the war is a sign from God and it only scares me more. I dont know what to do.. hes a good man with good intentions but it scares me when I hear people mentioning the world is gonna end and that the prophecies in the Bible are coming true..its causing me so much anxiety and I feel scared everytime I'm reminded that "time is running out" i dont know who to talk to to make me feel better- I dont have a church to visit since I havent found one and I have no friends that can understand my fears and the root of my anxiety. I can be living my life one minute without worry then the next my hearts pounding and all I feel is fear and anxiety for the uncertainty of the future.

@MaiaHeart98

I don't know if it helps, but that kind of rhetoric about the end of the world has been thrown around every time there have been war news, and the world is still here. Paralyzing people with fear is not only despicable, but it also prevents people from being brave enough to try and speak up against war and aggression.

I don't know how old you are, maybe you were too young to remember, but something similar to what is happening now happened in the early 2000s, with the US attacking the Middle East. It brought great destruction (although not on American soil), and here we are again.

It's ok to be scared. It's not ok to make other people more scared through fatalistic prophecies that do nothing but make these events feel inevitable. They are not inevitable, they are the fruit of human choices that can and should be avoided. Sometimes action is the best way to avoid being paralyzed by fear. Joining peace movements near you can help you find strength and courage in community.

Hi there,

I’ve been through this too because my country is near Ukraine and there were also a lot of news telling us to get ready for war.

The truth is that this war anxiety is more than real, especially in a time in which it seems that everyone went crazy and want to win something. I would suggest you protect yourself from the news and whatever source of info about this because there is a 50/50 chance it’s not actually true. It’s real that we live uncertain times, but wars don’t happen overnight, and turn of events can happen anytime.

Stay grounded, live your everyday life and be aware of the news you are watching, you can also share this in your family so it brings some stability back.

Reading your post eased my anxiety and made me feel better, I Just want to live a happy (peaceful) life and its a shame the government that's supposed to protect us is doing us more harm than good. I just wish for world peace for everyone and wish the war stuff would end. Thank you for your advice ! It can be hard to stay grounded while wanting to stay informed on current events (in case of anything) but Im gonna try.

@MaiaHeart98 I apologize if this reply is too "preachy" or "too religious." If it is, it is not intended to be that way, as I just want to help. I try my best to ignore all of the news. All they do is try to stir us up so we will keep watching and listening, so they can sell us things we don't need. The world will continue to be the world no matter whether we worry about it or not. I just largely ignore the news, keep praying and do my best to trust. Every day everybody shouts "This time it really matters!" They have been saying that ever since the world began. I am trying to distance myself from people who get me in a "doom & gloom" state of mind, and practicing this is an ongoing effort but it is also a commitment. I tell myself that if I can trust, my Higher Power can and will get us through anything. So I try to just stay busy with hobbies I enjoy. I do not want to ruin today anymore by worrying about tomorrow. I tell myself to trust that tomorrow will take care of itself. I hope my sharing this is helpful. Sending Peace your way.
