Has anyone heard of this way to cope with a panic attack?
HI! So I have been doing research and this theory is to NOT fight your panic attack.Let it happen! The stems from the theory that (as we all know) when a panic attack happens, adrenaline fires through our bodies and we need to get rid of it. So, roll around, move those arms and legs, cry, scream and just face it remembering that it will only last 15 minutes and you will be ok! This is supposed to remove any learned anxiety because you deal with it as it comes instead of hiding and you wont carry that heavy anxity all day. There are so many postivie thing I have heard of from this. Have you heard of it? Have you tried this? If you have, how was it? (if you don't mind sharing)
this has helped me when i am aware that it is just anxiety. but i have health anxiety and i am constantly afraid that my symptoms might be something else, so just "letting it happen" is a terrifying thought unless i know that how i feel is not caused by some serious condition but is just a panic attack.

I agree that it is scary to think something is wrong with you and all of the physical symptoms that come with anxiety are enough to freak us out. Its good to check in with your doctor when something doesnt feel right or you notice things change. Recently I was having panic attacks and that is not my norm so I got blood work done and found out my Estrisoal was low which means I have low Estrogen. Well, a symptom of that is anxiety! Its always good to get checked out but once you know, then you can work through it a little easier. I hope you are doing well and I wish you a peaceful night :)
@Pumpkin74 thanks, and yeah i got a full blood test done in october of last year and i have had a few more tests done since then. they all came back fine but i am still worried they are missing something. but thankfully my doctor is understanding and has referred me to some specialists to check me out further even though she is aware of my anxiety problem. so far everything that has been tested looks ok.
when i was going to public school driving into the parking lot i would get panic attacks. they would not stop unless i went home and cried screamed ranted in a journal ect... it was super difficult i cant imagine trying to fight that. now im getting anxious about getting anxious when i go to public school again next year.
@funfettifrosting
Wow! Thats sounds so hard! I would be so dreading the school year, but the good news is that you have time to plan things! Maybe you can practice ahead of time or work on some other coping skills. I'm so sorry! ((HUGS)) But, I have to say that you are so much stronger than you think as you keep going! Dont stop! YOU got this!
@Pumpkin74
thank you this made my day 10 times better and makes me motivated to do my school work
@funfettifrosting
Aww.. I'm so glad... I didnt leave my house from anxiety for like 8 months. It was so bad and I panicked all the time but the first thing I did was go to college. I was freaking out but here I finished and while nobody understands how hard it really was, I did it! I dont say it to brag in any way, I just want you to know that you really aren't alone and I'm so proud of you for not giving up! I hope you update us with your progress as you go.. Its going to be quite a journey <3
@Pumpkin74
TOMORROW im going on a tour of a new alternative high school that i might attend next year, im very excited and i hope i the school will be a good fit.
I have not actually heard of any truth to this in the past, but it's sort of what I have been doing. I think it helps to get all of the feelings out and then I usually feel a lot more calm.
@Pumpkin74 I have never heard of this one?
@Pumpkin74 interesting
@Pumpkin74
oh i've never heard or really tried this before, i would definitely try it sometime! usually i would just try to calm myself down to resist it
It's good to do it when you're alone because otherwise people will get scared of you. But the thing is that sometimes even this method can backfire against you. Let me tell you why...
When I have an anxiety attack at home (alone or with my parents) I don't even care, I'll shout, jump, cry, whatever to release it... But I also happen to punch myself. Yes, it gets this weird. I'll punch myself on my cheek or in my ear and I've made myself bruise already...
To me, the best option could be to grab some plushie and hug it so so hard. The softness of it calms me down. But sadly I rarely think about my plushies when I have a panic attack. I need to work more on this!
@Pumpkin74 Thaks for info
I know exactly how you feel. Having panic attacks for the past 2 years. Mostly at night when the body is trying to "come down". Realized it's like when you get hit by a wave in the ocean; the more you fight, the harder it gets to calm down. I started to try to just "dive"n like letting the wave roll over you and wait until you "reach the surface" again... but still so annoying, especially when you are tired and just want to sleep...
