How do you feel after having a panic attack?

Hiya Everyone,

Anxiety can be different for everyone so I was wondering what thoughts and feelings you experience after having a panic attack.

I'd say I feel drained and hopeless. Sometimes depression kicks in afterwards too.

Let me know!

I usually feel very drained as well, but also really edgy and shaky, like I still feel like something horrible is going to happen to me, even though the physical effects like hyperventilation and chest pain have gone away. That might not really make sense, I don't really know how to explain it.

@emma160 I think that makes a lot of sense! I'm always still shaky and on edge after I've gone through a panic attack, even if some of the physical symptoms have eased <3 It's certainly not easy to go through *hugs* We're here for you, please take care!

@blossombreathe after a panic attack, I find that I'm really worn out. There's always some residual anxiety, and this gross feeling in the pit of my stomach. Panic attacks just generally suck!! :')

I can't always tell when one ends. These days I always seem to be in a state of panic at any given time. The level of panic will just increase or decrease depending on different triggers. Right afterward though I usually feel tired or drained, then after I regain my energy I feel calm and happy I made it through. My panic comes from fear of death, so after I have a panic attack I usually just feel grateful to be alive.

Ah okay, so you find that you're constantly on edge! That must feel awful. I can understand about your fear of death and it is good to hear that you feel happy that you've made it through! Some people feel disappointed in themselves but I'm glad that you have a positive outlook on things.

Stay strong lovely! laugh

@blossombreathe Yeah having a positive outlook is all I really have sometimes so it's usually the way to go. Sometimes my therapists want me to be more realistic but I have a really negative outlook on the world so being positive is the best solution for me I feel.

@BeingOfService Same here with the constant state of panic thing. Every once in a while I have a good day, but it takes a tremendous amount of concentration and I feel drained. I can't stay calm for more than a day at a time, it seems.

@WhataDime713 What's helped me recently is doing something creative and cutting back on caffeine. I love coffee so much but I stopped drinking it and althought I was really grumpy and mean for several days, I feel much better now that I'm not addicted to it.

Panic Attacks can definitely be tough to deal with! Usually after a panic attack, I feel stressed, unsettled and nervous..I do have to agree with you that most of the time, the depression sets in too after!

@Sarra

Yes! It is common to feel unsettled and possibly even a bit nervous/embarrassed about it afterwards. Thanks for sharing; stay strong and keep smiling! laughheart

Really pathetic and useless after mainly

I pretty much have anxiety for the rest of the day. Every once in a while I'll get lucky and only half of my day will be ruined.. but I have panic disorder, and the longer an episode lasts, the harder it is to recover from a panic attack.

@blossombreathe I always feel like I'm stupid and my brain won't work right after a panic attack. I also kind of zone out and have a kind of headache kind of thing, more like my head feels funny.

Very tired and sleepy.

I need to sleep after one of those attacks; this helps me.

@blossombreathe

The physiological fear that kicks up in a panic attack leaves me drained and I know my body, who is my oldest and dearest friend, needs time to recover. I'm conscious of that and I will take it easy - I won't skip the gym if that was in my plan but I might treat mysefl to my favorite activities there instead of what was on the plan. I will take the rest of my free time to kick back and read or watch a good movie if I've been wanting to. I try to be kind to myself and not beat myself up.
