Confused??

So basically I have always struggled with anxiety - worrying, overthinking, paranoia, stress etc and I find myself constantly on edge, I see almost everything as a threat to my well being and I feel like I'm just so desperate to stay alive (even though there are no immediate threats to this anyway). However, where I become confused is that I often have intrusive, lingering, obsessive thoughts about death and dying. Suddenly out of nowhere I will remind myself that one day I and everyone I love will die and I feel this wave of fear and sadness pass over me. After overthinking about death and how inevitable it is for so long I've started to question the point in life at all - what's the point in anything if we all die? So I find myself torn between two overwhelming emotions - sheer desperation to stay alive and the fear of anything that could threaten that but also complete panic and misery as I understand that what I'm trying to prevent every day (harm/death) is inevitable anyway. Sorry if this has been all doom and gloom and I hope it hasn't triggered any of you reading it, I just really need to talk to somebody who might understand how I'm feeling.

Anxiety is a horrible thing.....I've been there, and I truly feel for you. And you recognise in yourself a tendency to worry and overthink. What I've learnt, that's helped me overcome anxiety, is that there are things in life I can't change. And death is one of them.

All I can hope is that my death, and the deaths of my loved ones, are in the distant future. But actually life throws us curve balls at times, and sometimes we may unexpectedly lose those close to us. So the other thing I feel is important, is to be there for those you love, and be part of a network that makes their life happier.

I also went though a period of thinking, what's it all about? Why are we here, why do we live just to die? You describe something similar. Wow, meaning of life stuff! I figure, whatever that meaning is, life is a gift. It's something we have that we can get pleasure from and appreciate. So before I die, I want to live....not just survive or exist, but live and enjoy. Some people go down in history as inventors or innovators. Their legacy lives on. But I think we can all leave something behind. I have fond memories of friends and relatives I've lost, and those are memories of laughter and love. I wouldn't have wanted to miss that......so their lives mattered hugely.

Yesterday's history, tomorrow's a mystery, and today is a gift.......that's why it's called the present.

@Haztaz

What's the point of living if we are going to die?

One of the many common questions I often encounter. Let me rephrase that question.

"If you're going to run out of cake to eat, what's the purpose of eating cake?"

The point is to enjoy it. If you were given your favorite cake to eat, would you say "No, I do not want to eat it because there is not enough cake that will last forever, therefore there is no purpose in eating it." No, of course not. Scarcity does not make it any less pleasing and delicious.

Same thing with life.

Best~

Yeah I struggle with this too. And the party analogy tgat I often hear about...doesn't work for me.

I guess part of it is just perspective. I kinda hopped aboard the nostalgia train recently, joined a bunch of sites that I used to frequent when I was younger and such, etc, and that has really thrown my thinking into a different place. Idk it might be a temporary high.

Also as for the rest of losing others, I guess what I think of is that instead of trying to possess them, just focus on like brining happiness to their life or something idk

I'm just kinda still trying to figure it out too
