Unable to sleep with the door closed

I have a pretty bad fear of the dark, where I can’t sleep with the lights off, and I keep on opening my eyes every few seconds to check if something’s there, until I eventually fall asleep. (Idk how either, it just happens lol.) Sometimes however, I won’t be able to sleep for a big portion of the night, especially if I get too in my head about my fear of the dark.

Recently though, I’ve been trying to sleep with the door closed at night. I always sleep with the door open, as I’m scared that if I close it, I won’t be able to listen out of people outside, and what if something happens to my family?

however, everyone I know sleeps with the door closed, and u kinda wanna do it too, so my room can be colder at night.

ive started to half close my room door but I just cant bring myself to close it fully.

I’m wondering if anyone has any tips or advice? Thanks!!

Hello, @Silentlywishing <3

First of all, thank you for sharing your fear. I am humbled to read what you wrote because not everyone is brave enough to share what makes them feel vulnerable. It takes courage to open up and I thank you for it. <3

It is also remarkable that you try and soldier head-on against your fear. Have you tried listening to calming and soothing music (especially instrumental one)? How about instead a small lamp instead of the room light? Or one of those galaxy /ocean light projectors so that you won't feel like you're in your room but outside?

I'm sorry that this has been affecting your sleep patterns. I am sending you warmth and courage so that you can continue this journey towards conquering (or at the very least, managing) your fear. Stay safe!

Thank you so much for your answer! I have tried listening to relaxing music, but sometimes it interferes with my ability to sleep for some reason :/ it’s really weird.

and I have actually considered getting a small lamp! I should really look for one tbh HAHAHA

@Silentlywishing

Hi, you're doing great taking the first steps to over come your fear. If you're family needs help, they can just bang on your door or scream from out side your door. You should be able to hear it. Try to close your door a little bit more after every week, that might be able to help you. You're very brave sharing your struggles with us. hope it helps!

@Silentlywishing

I don't think I have an advice for u but I wanna share mine. For me, I'm just the opposite with u, I need to close the door to sleep, cause I'm scared that someone will come into my room at night. At night when I need to use the bathroom, I'm always sooooo scared to get out of bed and walk to the bathroom😂.
