When your parents don't acknowledge your anxiety?

Hey guys, this isn't exactly an easy topic for me, but I felt it should be shared.

I've been struggling with anxiety since I was little, I am scared to go out to places, talking to people scares me and makes me exhausted, sometimes I get anxiety attacks where I can't breath and cry, I am scared my friends don't actually like me, and even my family makes me feel uncomfortable at times ... everyone who I have talked to about it, professional and not, all agree I have an anxiety disorder. Except for my parents.

They tell me I am being childish or overreacting, which at times can be true, but I am not doing it attention like they think. They won't accept that I have anxiety, and they joke about when things that seem insignificant to them, like me getting hives trying to order good at a resteraunt, because they say I'm being "stupid". I'm not trying to bother them, and I don't want to anger them, but I want them to see that what I have is real.

Do any of you have a similar problem?

I've had that with my times of having health anxiety. I know it sucks to feel like no one takes you seriously, especially if they're right that things are not as bad as I feel they are....idk

@Phthalo I'm sorry to hear that. I understand, sometimes I realize what I get worked up over is trivial, but that doesn't make me any less upset. We can't help it entirely though, our brains were made differently than others. I hope you stick to your path to getting better though. I wish you luck!

I hear you. my parents (mainly my mom, my dad's a little better) don't take me seriously when I'm anxious about something. I constantly hear, just calm down, you're blowing this out of perspective, just wait until you have a real problem, if you wanted to calm down you could, etc.

@LeinahStarr13 Oh God, I suffer exactly the same! I can't count on them, they do not take me seriously and I feel overwhelmed and alone

I've been going through the exact same problem. My parents only believe in physical illness. If my bones are not broken and my organs are not bleed, then I'm fine. I've been suffering so many attacks on my own.it's so hard and lonely. I guess people just has no idea how hard it is or that they should take it seriously until it happens to them.

I hope you know you're not alone. We can always talk about it here and we will be try our best to help. :)
