Social Anxiety can be harder than most people think - Getting help.

Hey guys :D I was doing some thinking and after seeing just how many people on here have some form of social anxiety it'd be nice to discuss something.

What is the hardest things about seeking out help for your social anxiety?

What I think when I ponder this question is the fact that although there will be so many places you can go to for help, and different things that can be done; there usually always is one big problem - most of it puts you in a social situation to do so. Think about it, if you have problems with being scared of spiders you wouldn't go ask a spider for help, you'd be too scared to try that, so why is it for most help with social anxiety we have to go and talk to people about it? D: It seems to be a big dilemma as you have to go through a lot of hardship and face your social anxiety and take it head on to be able to even try to get help most of the time, this just makes it way too hard to get help most of the time in my opinion, I'd be glad to hear everyone else's opinion on this :D

I don't know, but this is a really though provoking question. I know intellectually that it's something that I need to deal with and yet for some reason I only find myself motivated to do something about it when I am at my lowest of lows... Hmmm. A lot to chew on.

I was always afraid that I would inconvenience others or add to their load if I asked for help.

@intelligentString yup that definitely can be an issue :o we don't want to make our problem give other people problems at all, that sounds past tense so it's as if you have already reached at which would be great :D if not I hope you can ^-^ <3

@KeananWillListen

In a way I have, I am okay with telling my counselor/therapist person about things without feeling like I'm burdening them.

@intelligentString How? That's amazing. I'm getting better but I feel like I literally will pass out or die every single week I see him!!! And he is so nice! It's beyond frustrating. Even when I'm not telling him hard things, I still can't be normal for lack of a better word!

i think another thing would be that others don't actually believe you have social anxiety, and that they think you're just seeking attention. this means people who try to speak out don't get the support they need and often just retreat back into their shells, not coming out anymore because they were shunned when they did so.

@windflowers definitely this is always a good point to make :D it also deters people way too much in getting support because after the first time they are shunned or see someone shunned for it they'll close up even more and not want support :o that's ontop of all other problems and the fact they might feel like they wouldn't be believed already </3 all of these things just add up together to prove to us that it's so so so so difficult to reach out for help and get the support you need, even more so than most think, and it shows people who had no idea that they can't just say "just get over it" and stuff like that. Anyhoo, how're you doing darling? ^-^ <3

@KeananWillListen

yeah, exactly, and it really saddens me, tbh. also adding to the fact that some have anxiety too, and if they worry too much about it before, it's going to be awful when people don't believe them after. it really is, which is why everyone here is amazingly strong and brave and courageous! yes, but it's really hard to provide support too because you have no idea what to say sometimes, even when you understand :p

@windflowers yup it can be hard to help too, but remember it's always up to the person how things go whe nthey get help otherwise you're just controlling them :p let them take charge a tiny bit and it might be a little easier for ya to help people hehe :p <3

The hardest thing about seeking help for my anxiety was the anxiety caused by telling people and waiting to find out how they'd react and see if they'd be treating me differently. I started by asking my mother, which was without a doubt the worst feeling in the world. I do kind of regret telling her, since she's one of the persons who now treats me differently. I have a small group of school mates who knows too, and they're all good.

It's funny because in my case my personality doesn't help. I like to demonstrate I can do things when they get to that point and will accept the "challenge" but will suffer every second of it even hurting my mental and physical health. I try to avoid what I don't like or want to do as much as possible but if someone makes that kind of confrontation I will do it out of pure proudness.

thats why I'm where I am now, utterly unhappy and anxious all the time not knowing when to say no to something.

the hardest part of social anxiety, at least to me, is the lonliness. and not knowing how i can possibly break out of it and make a friend.

I think the hardest thing -even more than getting enough curage to actually tell someone- is the feeling of anxiety when you have and you're scared of them now judging you and/or treating you differently than before. Especially if the person has show strong feelings before and they'll go into mother-mode around you all the time -even when you're not having an anxiety attack or feeling anxious.

It can be quite... annoying (for lack of better wording) when people you've confineded in walks up to you when you're feeling good and asks you with a clearly worried voice if you're alright. It makes you feel like a bother to then and feel less if they doesn't treat others like that...

The hardest part for me is when I want to say something in front of people who might judge me. I wait for 10 minutes before I talk and when I do, my heart starts racing and I have difficulty breathing. I try to hide that but it's difficult to hide because once that happens I can't concentrate or keep up with conversations, so I end up replying in short answers or asking for more clarification.
