Summer Job-Social Anxiety
So I need to get a summer job this summer and I'm looking to see if there is a job better suited for me that I would be more comfortable in. I've worked in the food industry and as a desk assistant, but both of these had me talking to people and problem solving nonstop and it made me horribly anxious. Are there any jobs that, as weird as I feel to say it, have less "human interaction". I just felt so drained working both of those jobs. If I have to, I'll work in a busy customer service type job again, but I'd rather not. Or even if I do, is there one where it's not as busy nonstop?
Summer jobs are definitely a lot of work, but they're wonderful opportunities to grab to earn extra money since there's no school in session. As available jobs vary from area to area, asking around or finding a job board can be helpful. For example, using social media to find a job board, such as some local sub-Reddit's for a specific city will post job offerings, or on Facebook there will be a group created for job searchers. Good luck!
Hi song,
I can see how frustrating it must feel for you looking to earn extra cash getting a job you like but also doing something over the summer to not get bored and to still think about your studies in between. Sounds frustrating for a young person to handle.
Although I see you had two jobs already but you said they weren't anything you felt a sense of enjoyment for. Therefore you mentioned about facing people and talking them what makes you nervous. I mean has this always been am issue? Would you say your shy around new people? By saying that I understand how you feel.
Depending on most jobs some of them are usually having to form a way to communicate and talk to people, at times we have to keep the company running smoothly and effectively. Do you feel then you would be best suited working behind the scenes of a job? Doing something maybe creative and less formal? Sounds like you like to not feel so underpreassure. Again I'm the same but I work in retail and had practice at times by talking to people.
You shouldn't rule any job out but if you feel you would perform better doing something creative or more hands on then I would think looking into something like factory work, pot making, knitting clothes or even admin work and cleaning. Another one I was thinking of was maybe care work. You can get different kinds of care work . One on one care like helping, bathing, cleaning, making tea, serving meals etc or support work getting involved with activities with the community and going on day trips or doing fundraising.
Those are few jobs what don't require much from customers but there's plenty more out there. I would look at you as a person and see where you would fit in.
There's something out there for everyone so whatever it is it will soon come to your mind. Wish you luck and here if you need any other support .
@Songbird2526 If you are in the USA, Indeed.com is my favorite go-to site for jobs.
To answer your question, the only thing that comes to mind instantly is some kind of warehouse job. But if you do a random search on a job site for your area I'm sure you can find a few different types that might make you feel more comfortable!
