What Would You Say Back to Your Social Anxiety?
If you were given the opportunity to, what would you say to your social anxiety?
Found the gif here.
Hey @theriverissinging , great question, quite a prompt to encourage some thinking. Thankyou for creating this post ! 💗
Alsooo Are these cherry blossoms ? I love the gif, so pretty and relaxing 🌸
I don't know what I'd say, probably something like- " I know you are there and have the most random ways to express you *are* present but can we maybe not do it everytime, many people don't understand unfortunately , just know that as much i wish you weren't there - i acknowledge you and you don't have to remind me of your existence always lol :') "
How about you River , what would you say ?😊
@Sunisshiningandsoareyou
Thanks for participating, sun!
Yeah, they do look like cherry blossoms, so pretty hehe
Sounds like a very confusing and difficult relationship you've got with social anxiety. It does manifest in the most random ways and it's so valid to wish it wasn't there at all while also acknowledging it. *hugs*
I don't know what I'd say either. Probably something like - "I am not you or defined by you while I would want to believe otherwise so badly. I wish you didn't control any aspect of my social life but since you do I'm taking back your power, little by little." lol
Tagging some people who I probably remember having some convo with (in group chats or forums, no pressure to respond!)
@a1locker @MrsAshleyMarie @Star001
Wow thanks for remembering me!
this is a difficult question. Honestly I would want to scream at my anxiety. My GAD has caused me so much sleepless nights and exhausting days. I’d tell my anxiety that it is actually the fearful one and not I. I am brave for standing up against it and carrying on my life. I’m not victim of anything but rather a warrior because I am able to overcome my anxiety by myself and with help on some days.
@a1locker
It's definitely a difficult one, hehe. I'd want to scream at my anxiety too. It is so tiring.
You're really very brave for not giving up in the face of anxiety and moving (or trudging!) forward every single day! I truly believe in you. You deserve all your and others' support! Thanks for participating in this thread and sharing your awesome self and thoughts with us.
I would probably say no one is paying attention to you. They don't think you're weird for being alone. You're OK to not bother me today
@theriverissinging I would fancy that social anxiety were my body and talk to it thus: "You tremble, carcass? You would tremble a lot more if you knew where I am taking you."
Ooh this is a good one. I liked some of the replies to the question.
The anxiety is simply just there but it doesn't have to define you or have complete control or power over your life, you are simply much more than your anxiety...... Treat yourself with small acts of kindness especially when it's there
and know that it will fluctuate. At times it is strongly there, then it might fade.
Metaphor like ripples in the ocean....
@Willow79
Oh hey, thank you for replying!
I like how you compare it to the waves - waxing and waning in a sense, and acknowledging it is a big step indeed.
Agreed, you are much more than your anxiety and you deserve compassion. More power and love to you. ❤️
Hey thanks @theriverissinging
No probs,
I'm new at 7 cups. I normally am phobic about posting on forums but decided to try it out todaywhen normally I would talk myself out of it.... Just to see what happens is maybe not as bad as my anxiety riddled mind tells me. Small steps do mean something. Gee people are courageous everyday, I'm amazed.
Thanks for your supportive and kind words!
Yes it definitely feels like that some days.....
Btw cool user name.
🌟🌄👍
@Willow79
Welcome around! Here is a welcome pack for you that could maybe help to get a general idea of cups.
I'm glad I got to meet you today through forums, thank you for reaching out - it was very courageous of you. Small steps definitely add up, you're growing!
And thank you haha, I am so proud of my username. XD
I'd love to see you around, in your own time and how your energy permits. 😊
Hello 👋 and thank you for the engaging question. A part of me want to yell at it and tell it to shut up and relax already. Let me express myself and simply just say what's on my mind and take action without permission rather than either mulling over it for an extensive period of time or ruminating on how I could've said or done it better. I just want you to not place so much judgment over every single action I do! I am here as flawed as any other human being. I will fail, that's fine! Just let me be fine with failing so I can move forward.
@theriverissinging
Such a good question
I would say ' Some days I hate you as you made me miss time with my friends, my family and people I cared about, you made me miss opportunities and when I did attend you made it difficult for me but .... thank you.
Thank you for making me a stronger person, the person I am today!. Thank you for teaching me to have discipline over breathing techniques and grounding myself. Thank you for making me prepared for any situation and now wanting to go out and embrace every opportunity. Thank you for not taking over my entire life, thank you for making me learn and grow stronger.'
