Medicines kill creativity?

I want to know if anyone else has experienced this: if medicines kill creativity?

Basically I was a creative writer. Then I began having hallucinations. I was given medicines that have stopped the hallucinations but I also lost my writing imagination. Could the two things be linked? Or is it just a coincidence.

Share any opinions or similar experiences. Thanks. Love to all.

@Creamyyy

Hello,

hmm thats interesting.

I don't think I've heard of this before,

but I can see how it could happen!

Have you consulted with your prescriber about this?💛✨

@Creamyyy If they are linked, it is merely correlation, and not proven causation. Like the previous replier mentions, it can be a good idea to discuss these concerns with the person who prescribed these medications and possibly talk to a therapist as the writer block itself can be a mental block.

I feel like my medications had an effect on my mental quickness, memory, and motivation. I used to be more Type A personality, got straight As in school, and really tidy. Ever since I had my first Bipolar manic/psychotic episode and got put on medication things went down hill. I'm stable now and happy for the most part, but I'm not the same. I kinda miss the person I used to be sometimes.

I think it is possible that some (not all) medications can affect people cognitively. I also think that my bipolar disorder, itself, has brought about a "drier" period, mentally. It's hard to tell sometimes which it is, but it's not good to automatically blame medications. I hope you will discuss this issue with your doctor. Some kind of modification might be suggested. Also, often time brings us back to our creative self.

I remember thinking how creative I was in my 20s and early 30s (pre-medications), only to later find myself really shining during a period on them. I'll admit that I entered a drier period about two years ago, but I don't think it was my medications at fault. It was many other factors in life. For now, I'm just riding this new period.
