I need help understanding what's happening to me
Lately, I haven’t been able to sleep at night — it feels like insomnia. I just stay up late even when I’m not doing anything. My relationship with my family is poor, and I often get into arguments with them. I find myself crying a lot, sometimes even in public places or in class.
I tend to pull my hair or scratch my skin when I feel overwhelmed. It’s not that I want to hu—rt myself, but it feels like the only way I can release the tension or numb the pain inside. I’ve been feeling emotionally drained and constantly alone. I have many things I need to do, but I end up doing nothing because I feel so tired and unmotivated.
I’ve lost my appetite and energy to eat or do anything. I also notice that my temper is hard to control — I get angry easily, shout, and sometimes mess things up, then end up crying afterward. There are moments when I have intrusive thoughts about harming myself or about accidents, and they really scare me. I don’t want to feel this way.
Sometimes when I feel too much pain, I start laughing uncontrollably — it’s like I don’t know how to react anymore. I also notice that I get scared of my thoughts and reactions sometimes, and I’m worried that something might be wrong with me mentally.
I don’t know what’s happening to me, but I really want to get better and understand myself more. Please help me or guide me on what I can do. I'm scared that I might have mental disorder and I dont know it. Please I really need a help.
Thank you for reading guys.

Hi kindChestnut3569, I've been where you and I understand how you're feeling. My father and I used to get into arguments over something he said or did. Him and my mother don't have the best relationship so every now and then he would bring her up and make a snide comment. I became infuriated every time. It got to the point where I didn't want to be at home anymore so I started staying with my mother some days. It was really nice, there wasn't any arguing, just laughs and days of peace. Sometimes a change of environment can help tremendously with your thoughts and livelihood. If it's possible for you, I recommend spending a few days away from your family. Maybe stay with a friend or a sibling if you have one. Eventually I moved out of my dad's house and it's been for the better, I don't regret my decision.
Whenever I get overwhelmed, my heart races and I start sweating, sometimes I bite my nails. More recently, I've started cleaning my room whenever I feel that way, it's like getting a surge of adrenaline and me needing to drain it through physical activity.
When I used to be a music major, I was extremely overwhelmed. Between my family drama and my hideous classroom environment, I constantly felt drained. I didn't have enough energy to sing to my professors standards. I was incredibly depressed every single day. I constantly felt like a disappointment to those around me and I felt alone. I no longer wanted to feel this way. I told myself "having nothing is better than what I am going through now". So I quit those classes and took time off to heal myself. I thought about my feelings, my actions, my thoughts, my wants and needs. Basically, everything that came to mind. I researched every question I had about myself and internalized the answers that really struck me.
I understand you when you say, you have a lot of things to do, but end up doing nothing. Most days I'm the same way. I think about all the things I need to do and feel like giving up on doing any of them that day. But what I find that really helps is if you list each thing from "urgent" to "another day" you can work through most of your tasks. It also helps if you think about only one of those tasks at a time and make a plan to tackle the task. When you're done, move on to the next and repeat. It's okay if you don't get everything you wanted done the same day, there's always tomorrow. If you're feeling tired and unmotivated that's okay. Sometimes I just lie in bed and space out thinking about why I feel that way. Sometimes I close my eyes and breathe deeply, it can help calm you and relieve a bit of stress.
Feeling remorse over something you did or said is completely normal. It shows that you want to be better, to get better. Sometimes it can reach the breaking point and cause you to not want to exist anymore. I completely understand. When this happens, I shake my head, like trying to get the thought out of my head. I hold myself and walk out of the room I was in. Most times I walk outside and distract myself. I play fetch with my dog, it really brings a smile.
Know that you are not alone, you have support here. Being scared is a natural response to your mental state. It's the fear of not knowing who you are or what will become of you. In time, that will lessen the more you discover about yourself. Take it day by day and go easy on yourself.

I would definitely get an evaluation from a psychiatrist so you can understand what's going on with you, when I was in my early 20's I didn't know what was going on with mentally and when I got clarification from a trained mental health specialist I was able to heal from the trauma I caused my self
