A question about psychosis
when I was 13 a doctor diagnosed me with depression. After a year on antidepressants I felt better but all of a sudden I developed psychosis. It was really bad I had visual hallucinations then I lost control over my body I could hear others talking to me but I couldnt respond or move. Another doctor said It was bipolar disorder treated wrong and the antidepressants caused me psychosis. Is this true?
I can't tell you, but I can say that stress can trigger psychosis. It can even be the trigger for long term issues like schizophrenia. It could've been an adverse reaction to meds, yes. Or it could be due to the stress.
@azureSpruce880 I'm not an expert, but I have read that some antidepressants are thought to cause psychosis in some people. So it could be true that this is what happened to you. That doesn't mean it is definitely true, but it could be.
I've also read that it's bad to take certain antidepressants if you have bipolar disorder, but I don't know why that other doctor thought you had bipolar disorder. So that might be true, but just going by what you've written here it seems less likely.
Unfortunately, doctors do often disagree, and finding the right treatment can often involve some trial and error. I see you're now here at 7 Cups on an adult account, and I hope you've now either recovered from the problems you had when you were 13, or you've been able to find medication that works well for you.
