Hello everyone! Welcome to today's CDM Talk with your host azuladragon34 ❤️️ Let's get started!

Many times emotional problems as adults can be traced back to unresolved issues from childhood. They have often been forgotten and buried for a long time. By identifying these issues, people can work to heal their inner child wounds and move on with their lives.

Get in touch with your inner child:

  1. When I was a child/younger I loved/ was fascinated with ______

  2. When I was a child/younger I used to showcase my talent/achievement to ______

  3. Remember the house where you spent your childhood. What emotions best describe the memory of that place?

  4. When you were scared, sad or hurt as a child, how did a parent/caregiver respond to your emotions?

  5. How do you deal with emotional discomfort now? What is your outlet?

  6. Leave a short caring and comforting note to your inner child

<3 When I was a child/younger I loved/ was fascinated with:

Learning

<3 When I was a child/younger I used to showcase my talent/achievement to:

Seek attention and appreciation

<3 Remember the house where you spent your childhood. What emotions best describe the memory of that place?

I was always moving so never got the chance to explore such a home. But, I miss how one of the houses I've lived at felt so soothing. It was a comfortable place and I was so innocent, I had many friends I'd play hide and seek with.

<3 When you were scared, sad or hurt as a child, how did a parent/caregiver respond to your emotions?

I'll pass on this question.

<3 How do you deal with emotional discomfort now? What is your outlet?

There are different-different things that I do, depending on my mood. I prefer to give myself space and pamper myself. I prefer to take a shower, get dressed, and go for a walk. It lifts my mood and lightens my heart. If I am too sad, I play songs and dance till I sweat. It feels much better after sweating it out.

<3 Leave a short caring and comforting note to your inner child.

You're a survivor and you've become a warrior. I am proud of you for taking care of yourself in such harsh conditions.

I'm not saying this is wrong, but it's a very controversial topic in psychology. I urge you and anyone else to read about this first: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/False_memory_syndrome when trying to use the "inner child" model.

An exciting addition to the discussion. Thank you! 😊 First of all, I'm sure the discussion is not in any way serving as a professional therapy.

I agree that some memories may be inaccurate, especially when they are childhood memories. Our perception of a life experience can be very subjective. My question is: is belief in what happened (regardless of if it is factual or not) and the emotions we feel as a result of perceived events a factor that may shape our behaviours?

As a kid, I noticed my mum would talk about my brother in a way that showed her pride in him through her eyes and body language. He is like her. The type of person who walks in a straight line. Meanwhile, I'm that rebellious kid who challenged her in many ways with my antiques.

The fact is she's proud of my creative and eccentric side. She's fascinated because I'm everything that she's not. (Yes, I asked her recently. "Did I ever make you proud, mama?)

The fact is I'm struggling to overcome Imposter syndrome. As a matter of fact, I never cease to strive to do everything and tell her about my accomplishments just to see the pride in her eyes.

Will tapping into our inner child wound help us heal?

  3. Remember the house where you spent your childhood. What emotions best describe the memory of that place?

  4. When you were scared, sad or hurt as a child, how did a parent/caregiver respond to your emotions?

I do not have any recolection of someone responding to my emotions.

  5. How do you deal with emotional discomfort now? What is your outlet?

I compensate a lot through work, in order to take my mind off of emotional discomfort. I also write about my emotions and write letters to myself while pretending that I am giving advice to a really good friend who is in trouble. I have regular dates with myself alone, reading or writing on my laptop while having a cup of coffee (this has proven to be a necessary routine for me now, as it worked so well in maintaining my wellbeing!), having long walks with myself and listening to music, dancing and jumping around when alone... also, talking to someone close to me (my mom, boyfriend, friends etc.)... and in some cases, having just a really good cry also has been an amazing outlet for me.

  6. Leave a short caring and comforting note to your inner child

I am so proud of you. You have come so far, despite of all the obstacles... You are so strong and capable like nobody I have ever seen. Great things are awaiting you, child.
