What is Loneliness?

Over the years I have been active here, I found that loneliness is one of the most common issues.

One in 10 adults feel lonely according to studies conducted in different countries. That's quite massive, isn't it? Seems like loneliness has become the new common cold.

Somehow, it is intriguing how so many people are lonely at more or less the same time at the same place (here on earth). What have we done wrong? I'm interested to understand better.

  1. What is loneliness in your own words?
  2. Where do you feel the pain in your body whenever loneliness hits?
  3. In order to ease the pain, what do you need? Or what do you think would be helpful?
  4. How do you use 7 Cups to help and to heal?

Loneliness is when you are with a person in a room but still feel like you are sitting by yourself.

Loneliness is not the same as being alone. You can be alone but still be happy.

Loneliness is when you think you are alone in the world, even among a crowd of others.

@ouiCherie,

Loneliness might be the most widespread human experience, and yet, due to its nature, that fact doesn't help to ease the feeling.

What is loneliness in your own words?

Saturn is out there, yes. But you probably don't think of it often, even to the point you forget it exists sometimes.

Loneliness it's thinking you're like Saturn: obviously there, but irrelevant unless someone notices. And the most important thing is that feel so far away and seemingly uninfluential, you think no one will care to understand you.

Where do you feel the pain in your body whenever loneliness hits?

My whole body feels numb. I loose appetite. I want to curl up. My chest feels tight and empty. Headaches and busy mind.

In order to ease the pain, what do you need? Or what do you think would be helpful?

To feel appreciated, validated or understood by others. Could be a compliment for my work, a simple "I missed u", or "I get u, that makes sense". Hanging out helps too, because when I feel lonely I tend to isolate.

How do you use 7 Cups to help and to heal?

In 7cups many are trying to do better, no matter how hard it gets sometimes, and that motivates me and gives me hope. I can also share and I know someone will kindly listen, which is something I don't have in real life.

loneliness is isolation, lack of meaningful connection to other human beings. Its emptiness and fear of or having no support

i feel the pain in my heart. A heaviness. Longing for connection.

Talking to someone, not being afraid to reach out for help and say ‘ Im lonely!’ Do group activities or try connecting to self through meditation or music

Doing this exercise or chatting on 7 cups helps me feel connected. To know, ‘Im not alone.’

  1. What is loneliness in your own words? Loneliness is a feeling associated with perceived lack of support and connection.
  2. Where do you feel the pain in your body whenever loneliness hits? My core, spreading out into my my arms and hands and throat, until I cry.
  3. In order to ease the pain, what do you need? Or what do you think would be helpful? There's only a couple of things that help ease the pain: music and nature. I feel less alone when I do that. What would be the most helpful though is someone to talk to irl, but...
  4. How do you use 7 Cups to help and to heal? 7cups has given me a lot of people online to turn to, which helps. I also have used exercises from the paths and those have helped me learn to cope and whatnot. Listeners, chat rooms, and forums are really helpful for acute loneliness.

  1. Loneliness is a sense of dread that you get deep down when you know that no one wants to associate with you in any way. It's a pain that lingers around the corner just waiting to strike when you are at your lowest. It's the feeling of not having anyone to go to and to hang out with.
  2. You feel it in your heart, gut, and head. It's like a sharp pain that makes your head ring and makes you think about things that you shouldn't. It's a throbbing that never stops. It's like someone punched you in the gut or like someone is squeezing all the life out of your heart.
  3. In order to ease the pain for me I just try to sleep or to clear my head. Take a deep breath and just clear your mind. Read or go on a walk. Just try to think of the positive things cause it only gets worse if you dwell in it.
  4. I use 7 cups not only to help myself heal but also to help others. Talking to people and helping members sort out how they are feelings and what they need helps me to remember that I am not lonely and that somewhere out there people care about me.

For me, loneliness is this oppressive force whenever I'm alone in the house. I've lived my entire life surrounded by people, so the sudden absence can sometimes be both welcoming and daunting. When I feel lonely, I feel crushed by my own existence, my head is fuzzy, my heart is heavy and sore, tears come quickly, and everything can feel overwhelming. I'm still learning to ease the pain, but talking to other people helps, or watching youtube videos to make me laugh or distract me from the chaos of my own mind. With seven cups, I can reach out to someone to talk to, take my mind off of things, or even vent about everything weighing me down.

@ouiCherie again great thought provoking question 🐾✌️🌄👍🐶🌅

I am alone from humans, yet have a plethora of love around from the rescue Mutz.. this is not the lonely bit for myself.. that part comes from missing real relationships, having “the one” doing the little things..

to share a joke, a touch, a smile.. to pick a wildflower and plant it so it grows another, watch the sun or clouds setting or rising on a day filled with hope..

a knowing look when an inside joke - past story or situation reappears in our life at that time.. to cook for someone.. or heaven forbid have someone offer to cook for me.. lol.. the Mutz not having thumbs makes it hard for them to cook.. lol.. they make my world worth it, don’t get me wrong.. 🐾🐶🐨 cats dogs and horses.. just hard to fit that into screen name

where that hurts, is in my chest, my heart and head.. replaced with acceptance of the new me.. best for all to be, or let it be, as seen it has been said..

tools for help on here are many.. for myself, having actual people to “talk” type with, is a novelty.. I do interact briefly with people I know in the area, when getting food or drinks.. and when giving talks on animal body language and behaviour the mask is easy to wear, and well versed script flows from my mouth answering all questions and not really being there apart from physically..

this site has allowed me to actually try, and want to be present.. the sharing circle has helped me more than can express.. even just being able to relate, sadly gave me comfort.. addiction area so many people going thru and coming out the other side of trauma and well…. Life, they just keep swimming, just keep swimming..

i struggle with keeping things short, (as you can clearly see, so the briefly interactions with humans mentioned before maybe not so short) and know I talk too much when, actually do start..

again being here is helping.. Also I think, maybe wrong 🤷🏼‍♂️ But it actually feels like people care and want to listen that I have spoken to.. thank you for that.. 🦘🐶🌅✌️

This being lonely all together from all over the world, is much easier than doing it alone.. much luv all.. 🐾🌄🤗🥳

Hi Cherie! Nice post! ❤️ : )

I think, we all experience loneliness at some point in our lives. Just that the frequency, the degree and what we choose to do with that loneliness (v imp) varies.

Loneliness can be felt even in the middle of the crowd or one might not feel lonely at all when alone. It is more on the inside than the outside.

What is loneliness in your own words?

Loneliness is the feeling of lacking something, felt when there is some disconnection with self. It appears to be some sort of endless longing.. worse when accompanied by fear.

Where do you feel the pain in your body whenever loneliness hits?

Impacts the mind first, and eventually shows on body too if the feeling continues.

In order to ease the pain, what do you need? Or what do you think would be helpful?

Love. Self-love. The connection with ourselves. And when that connection is established, we never feel lonely.

How do you use 7 Cups to help and to heal?

By taking 7 Cups as a journey for self exploration and self-evolution. By growing and developing using various opportunities that are provided here.

Loneliness for me is really when theres absolutely no person to understand, gone through and felt for you on your life road, its always been you and yourself and no friends/family or anyone really there for you.

Thats pure loneliness when no one really misses you or care.

Hi, Cherie,

  1. What is loneliness in your own words? longing for another's interaction or presence
  2. Where do you feel the pain in your body whenever loneliness hits? I'm not sure. My head maybe down to my upper chest. My arms.
  3. In order to ease the pain, what do you need? Or what do you think would be helpful? Just someone's interaction or presence.
  4. How do you use 7 Cups to help and to heal? I come here sometimes to interact with people in the hourly chat room, or to read questions and answer them.
