Tw: mentions dth/endangered species

Hello everyone, and happy timezones!

September 4th is known as National Wildlife Day!

Here are some interesting things to know about this wonderful awareness day <3

National Wildlife Day was founded in 2005 by animal behaviorist and philanthropist Collen Paige, in memory of Steve Irwin, the beloved "Crocodile Hunter", who passed away on this date in 2006.

This day represents the dedication that preserves the lives of many endangered species, and to aid conservation efforts around the world. Such as zoos, aviaries, and marine sanctuaries which provide many with opportunities to get involved with the aid in ending the endangerment to these precious animals.

Why this day is so important?

This day helps us take a look around us from the birds in the trees, squirrels roaming freely, and even the cattle munching on grass in a nearby farm. National Wildlife day serves as a dedication to protect animals that are in harm or fear in becoming extinct. The amazing thing about National Wildlife day is that is that it also branches off into World Wildlife Day which takes place on March 3rd.

What are the list of endangered species?

So far there are 42 species that are on the cusp of extinction; which are listed here:
https://www.worldwildlife.org/species/directory?direction=desc&sort=extinction_status
This website shares the status of the species that is on this list, and shares whether it has been extinct, brink of extinction or labelled as endangered.

Overall theme for this awareness is fostering respect, responsibility for endangered species, and the environment.
