The beauty of Islam : The culture of inquiry ❔❓

Assalamualaikum (peace be upon you) !

Hello there 👋

  • Do you have any questions about Islam ?
  • Is there anything you want to know ?
  • Do you want to share something you know ?
  • Is there anything unclear that you want to learn about ?

💌 Feel free to share your thoughts and ask. I will do my best to help you and clarify everything Insha'Allah (God willing) 😊.

The Holy Quran invites all of humanity to reflect, ask questions, and discover the true message of Islam.

Open dialogue and the pursuit of knowledge are encouraged in the deen (religion) of peace and mercy, explicitly commanding in Surah An-Nahl [16:43]

Translation of meaning: So ask the people of the message if you do not know

This divine invitation emphasizes that faith should be built upon understanding rather than ignorance. By learning and exploring, everyone can find answers to their questions and experience the beauty of Islamic guidance.

Additionally, the first word of the Holy Quran revealed to the Prophet Muhammad صلّى الله عليه وسلم (peace be upon him) was "إقرأ"  "Iqra" Surah Al-Alaq [96:1] which means "Read" or "Recite."

This command establishes that Islam is built upon a lifelong pursuit of education, intellect, and profound reflection, inviting everyone to openly question and discover its truth.

Furthermore, the invitation is inclusive of all, as knowledge isn't limited to reading but also comes through listening and understanding as stated in Surah ق Qaf [50:37]

Translation of meaning: Indeed in that is a reminder for whoever has a heart or who listens while he is present [in mind].

Thank you very much. Looking forwards to hearing from you !

Assalamualaikum! (Peace be upon you)

Is Music Haram

User Profile: AReine
AReine OP July 12th

Thanks for asking 😊 but the status of music in Islam is a subject of scholarly debate, with differing viewpoints based on interpretation. The primary Quranic evidence used by scholars who prohibit music is Surah Luqman, where the phrase "idle talk" is traditionally interpreted to include singing and instruments:

"And of mankind is he who purchases idle talk (lahw al-hadith) to mislead [men] from the path of Allah..." (Quran 31:6)

For authentic Hadiths, a prominent narration in Sahih al-Bukhari warns against the adoption of musical instruments:

"There will be among my Ummah people who will regard as permissible illegal sexual intercourse, silk, alcohol, and musical instruments (al-ma'azif)."

Regarding the duff (a traditional frame drum), authentic Hadiths show it is an exception to this prohibition, explicitly permitted during joyous occasions like weddings and Eid. For example, in Sahih al-Bukhari, the Prophet Muhammad passed by young girls playing the duff and did not stop them.

And above every possessor of knowledge there is one more knowing.

Not really a question more a thought I wanted to say which is staying curious leads to deeper study and the desire to learn more. Can you tell me about expectations regarding each person's role in a marriage? Do the roles change or expectations change if both people are seriously ill with chronic illnesses?

Yeah I agree staying curious leads to learning more 😊

User Profile: AReine
AReine OP July 15th

In Islam, mutual chronic illness shifts marriage from rigid rights to deep compassion based on the strong bomd of رحمة mercy, مودّة affection and صبر patience between spouses. Allah reassures couples that obligations are lifted beyond physical limits allowing partners to focus entirely on mutual care and ease during hardship.

This compassionate flexibility is captured in Surah Ar-Rum (30:21) and Surah Al-Baqarah (2:286):

Mutual Mercy (Rahmah)

"And of His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquility in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought."

(Surah Ar-Rum, 30:21)

Shared Ease and Capacity

"Allah does not burden a soul beyond that it can bear."

(Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:286)

@AReine Hello. Is it alright to ask for advice?

I was born into a Muslim family, but because my parents had a lot of conflict over religion when I was young, my siblings and I were never taught how to practice. My mother is Roman Catholic, my siblings are not religious, and my Muslim father lives away from us to support the family. When I was young, my father took me to a mosque once, and that experience stuck with me so deeply that I later refused to convert to Catholicism when asked.

I really want to start practicing Islam now, but I will be the only one in my household doing so. Do you have any advice on how to start practicing Islam from scratch when you are completely alone in your family?

Assalamualaikum hello 👋 I understand your situation and I am happy that you reached out 😊. While I cannot give advice, I can share with you Ayat (verses) from the Quran that will help you 🙂.

"And those who strive for Us - We will surely guide them to Our ways. And indeed, Allah is with the doers of good."

— Surah Al-Ankabut (29:69)

"Indeed, Allah is with those who fear Him and those who are doers of good."

— Surah An-Nahl (16:128)

"Say, 'O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.'"

— Surah Az-Zumar (39:53)

2. Allah's Love for Those Who Return

A beautiful reminder that turning back to God is actively loved and cherished by Him.

"Indeed, Allah loves those who are constantly repentant and loves those who purify themselves."

— Surah Al-Baqarah (2:222)

3. The Path Forward

A reassuring promise of continuous forgiveness for those who take that first step back.

"And indeed, I am the Perpetual Forgiver of whoever repents and believes and does righteousness and then continues in guidance."

— Surah Taha (20:82)

Do you believe Jesus is the Messiah? Thr Lord of Lord's and King of kings? Alpha and omega? Healer, helper and friend closer than a brother?

User Profile: AReine
AReine OP July 16th

In Islam, the religion of peace and mercy🩷 , we believe that عيسى Isaa (Jesus) is a highly revered Messenger of Allah, but not divine, a partner to God, or "Lord of lords. As mentioned in the Holy Quran

“The Messiah, son of Mary, was no other than a messenger; messengers before him had indeed passed away” (5:75).

Allah clarifies in the Holy Quran القرآن الكريم that عيسى Isaa (Jesus) never claimed divinity for himself or his mother.

“And [beware the Day] when Allah will say, 'O Jesus, Son of Mary, did you say to the people, "Take me and my mother as deities besides Allah?"' He will say, 'Exalted are You! It was not for me to say that to which I have no right...'” (5:116).

Ultimately, Islam asserts absolute monotheism, declaring that there is no god but Allah, the only Divine Creator "اللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ"

"Allah! There is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of all existence” (2:255).

The beauty of Islam 🌺 shines through its traditions of social harmony, deep empathy and domestic warmth, as instructed in the Holy Quran:

Translation of meaning: Worship Allah and associate nothing with Him, and do good to parents, relatives, orphans, the needy, the near neighbor, and the distant neighbor...— Surah An-Nisa 4:36) This ayah (verse) highlights the importance of helping other people and those in need whether we do or mot know them.

Translation of meaning: And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive — Surah Al-Insan 76:8) This ayah invites people to be kind towards others by sharing food even when you need it for those who meed it the most. This is called الإيثار Al-Iithaar : altruism

Translation of meaning: And if two factions among the believers should fight, then make peace between them — Surah Al-Hujurat 49:9) This ayah highlights the importance of making peace between people. If you have friends or relatives or even people you don't know you can help them reconciliate. Just like how the companion Abu Bakr ابو بكر رضي الله عنه reconciliated between the two companions Othman ibn Affan and Omar Al-Khattab.

Othman ibn Affan and Omar Al-Khattab. When Umar complained that Uthman ignored his greeting, Abu Bakr brought them together to inquire gently about the situation. Upon learning that Uthman was simply lost in intense grief over the Prophet's passing, Abu Bakr validated his honesty and restored harmony between them.

Translation of meaning: No good is there in much of their private conversation, except for one who enjoins charity or that which is right or conciliation between people... — Surah An-Nisa 4:114).

Living these teachings, Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him, explicitly placed mending ties and serving others above voluntary worship, declaring: "Shall I not inform you of something better in degree than fasting, prayer, and charity? It is reconciling between people." He constantly prioritized fulfilling people's daily needs, teaching that neighborly care is so sacred that he thought Angel Gabriel peace be upon him would make neighbors legal heirs, advising companions to make extra broth to share next door. Upon the martyrdom of Ja'far ibn Abi Talib, he established the Sunnah of community care during bereavement by instructing followers to cook food for the grieving family.

Within his home, he dismantled deep-seated taboos by resting his head in his wife Aisha’s lap to recite the Quran while she was on her period.

Extending this gentleness to all living creatures, when a cat fell asleep on the sleeve of his cloak, he chose to cut off the sleeve rather than move and wake her up when he needed to leave for prayer—proving that Islam elevates every act of kindness, peacemaking, and mercy into acts of devotion.💚

It is reconciling between people." He constantly prioritized fulfilling people's daily needs, teaching that neighborly care is so sacred that he thought Angelجبريل عليه السلام Gabriel peace be upon him would make neighbors legal heirs, advising companions to make extra broth to share next door.
