What do you hate about yourself?

Depression is bizarre in how in alters the way we think. We may know logically that it is our depression making us think this way but knowing that doesn't invalidate it. So write down what exactly you hate about yourself, let it all out. Once you do look back at what you wrote. Hopefully documenting your thought process will make it easier to work through your issues. Plus we will all be here to help.

I hate how I'm not like my mother. She's strong, independent, optimistic about everything, she doesn't let anything step on her, and she has a very strong faith. I hate how I'm the total opposite of what she is. I'm weak, dependent, I can't look at things in a good angle and I have lost my faith. This is why we tend to argue whenever she sees me cry. Every time she sees me cry, she just looks at me and ask "Why can't you be happy with your life?"... because I'm not like you, mom

I don't hate anything about myself... it's just the way I am..I don't have any particular control over it.

I'm not pretty enough or smart enough, I'll never be enough

@lonelypinky Well that's what the depression makes us believe.. But it's a lie.. You are enough :) You are pretty, intelligent, kind, funny, a good person.. Don't believe what depression tells you :) Everyone matters and everyone is enough.. I hope you feel that love soon <3

I hate my inability to maintain my own sense of self worth and respect to protect and reflect my strength, character and significance. That I've enabled myself to loose sight of everything that mattered most and in the end loose the love I loved the most.

My Paranoia and myself in general

I love that I hated myself.

At first I was angry all the time. Then I realized I was hating myself.

I kept telling these nasty things to myself about myself: "I am not enough, I'm not experienced enough, I'm not smart enough".

Once I started questioning if these things were true and sought proofs of the complete opposite I started seeing that it was not true: I was just believing what I told myself. So I stopped saying that and now I'm practicing telling a different story about myself.

@AlanRY That's a beautiful thing that we all need to practice :)

Thank you, @PuppyLove13.

If I may: I would not say we need to practice this. In fact, I believe we do not have to practice this. I prefer to see this as an option I may take.

I say this because anytime I have heard someone telling me: "You have to do X" my inner reaction was either: "No, I won't! I'll show you!" or "What's the use, I can't do it anyway". I find (inner) resistance in opposition to obligations/impositions. I see the same in my clients. So I prefer to say: Sure, you may experiment with this if you want to. You'll chose what's convenient to you. You know better what you want.

@AlanRY Aah yes the childlike rebel that exists in us all! Though for our protection at times, it does tend to ruin us too..

@PuppyLove13 Exactly! I see that sometimes I, or my clients, resist to change rebelling or being submissive (abandoning themselves). So to get them to account for themselves, I prefer to have them choose what they want. I tell them it's their life, their decisions, and they will live by the consequences of what they choose. So it's ok to experiment and see if doing nothing works for them, if that's what they want. Whatever they choose, I accept them and invite them to love themselves regardless of what they choose and do.

@AlanRY You give them all the options with all the pros and cons as that's the best you can do.. And after that, they're free to choose what they want as they'd making an informed and conscious decision. So even if it doesn't go as planned, they'd atleast be glad to have been completely informed before making the decision.. So yes it's an awesome way to help people :)

I hate that I look at what I don't have instead of what I do. It's just never good enough

@gregariousShade2356 If we look at what we don't have, even the more blessed person won't be satisfied/ content as everyone has flaws and things that they'd like but don't have.. The trick is to value what you have so much that you are always content with it and never desire anything more :) <3 So try making a list of everything you have.. It helped me a lot :)
