"Little by little, a little becomes a lot." – Tanzanian Proverb 🌱

Hello everyone,

Welcome to newcomers and returning members of the depression support community. Whether you just joined or are coming back after time away, you belong here. 💚

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. First, I want to sincerely apologize for this late post. This month carries such an important message, and it's one worth sharing no matter the date.

Even as we move further into the month, the focus remains the same: the courage to keep going, the power of small actions, and the hope that tiny joys can still reach us.

This month's prompt:

Create a Dopamine Menu 🍏:

What is a Dopamine Menu?

A Dopamenu is a simple tool to help you boost your mood and motivation. Just like a food menu, it gives you choices. You pick activities based on how much time and energy you have. The goal is to help your brain release dopamine or the "feel-good" chemical, without pressure or perfection.

Blank Template :

Example of Dopamenu 🍈:

How to Use your Dopamine Menu :

Step 1: Print or save the blank template.

Step 2: Fill in each section with your own ideas. Use the example for inspiration.

Step 3: When you feel stuck, pick one thing from your menu. Start with a Starter if you're really low.

Step 4: Do it. No pressure to finish. No guilt if you stop early.

Step 5: Repeat whenever you need a boost.

Feel free to share your Dopamine Menu in the comments!

Sending love and light,

Angelanj

@Angelanj

YES... 👍

@mytwistedsoul and I are just discovering the importance and effects of dopamine. We (hope twist don't mind the inclusion) learned that dysfunctional upbringings from childhood, BADLY alters the PRE-dopamine mechanism that excites others to start a project or chore. Many of us depend on the post dopamine effect.

The Good News is we can rebuild our pre-dopamine machine by USING a menu like you created. Thank you so much for posting and sharing. It is a very real thing.

Learning about the dopamine, Really helped me understand, my lack of inititave, was not a weakness, which i perceived as a pesonal inadaqucy for many years.

Wishing you both the best in your rebuilding. Remember that indeed you are not broken or inadequate. Sending joy! 💜💜💜

Love this! Lists and references are the most essential tool in my day because it helps my executive function, which largely relies on dopamine! If I don't have to think so much about what or how I'm going to to things, I can spend time actually doing the things that bring me joy. Everyone's different; may we all remember that everyone is fighting their own battle and to be respectful and kind.

@Angelanj

This is such a creative and gentle tool —thank you, Angelanj!

I love the idea of having a 'menu' to turn to when motivation is low. It takes the pressure off trying to 'fix' everything at once.I'm going to try filling one out this week. Little by little really does become a lot. 🌱

@Claimlistener it sounds like this tool came at just the right time for you. Dealing with low motivation can feel so heavy and I get how it can feel overwhelming when you are trying to figure out where to start.

Remember to be gentle with yourself as you fill it out this week. As you said, little by little truly does add up!

@Carbonara134340

Thank you so much 😊 for your kind words they really mean a lot. You're right, low motivation can feel so heavy, and sometimes just knowing where to begin is the hardest part. I'll try to be gentle with myself this week and take it one small step at a time. Your encouragement truly helped❤️
