Express Yourself - Poems, Songs, Quotes etc
Hey everyone!
It's Mental Health Awareness week!
Throughout this week we're working to give mentally ill people a voice. We want to join us in using your voice to express yourself creatively. You are encouraged to create something yourself but you are also welcome to use famous poems etc for this event too.
How it works:
Find or make a piece of art, a poem, a description etc that you feel represents you or your mental illness
Post it here (and make sure you tell us who it's by)
You are welcome to post multiple times
Tag some people to add their submissions
Look at all the wonderful artwork
Enjoy!
My submission is a writing I did for an "Art Chat" I set up. The theme for the week was "Personify your pain". This is what I wrote:
I woke up one morning, sun streaking through my curtains. I could already feel it without needing to look. There was a weight on my legs much heavier than a pillow. I opened my eyes and they confirmed: Today was not going to be a good day.
Yay! You're awake! The creature cried.
I groaned and lay my head back down. I needed a moment to handle this.
Hug time! It grinned once I got up, enveloping me in a forceful embrace. I relaxed into it. I was too tired to struggle. Relaxing into it only made me tireder.
I spent the rest of the day with it on my back. It gripped me and didn't let go. It knocked into people and things. I tried my best to ignore but if it decided I hadn't spent enough time on it, it would squeeze me tightly. It weighed so much. Its hugs are so suffocating. They squeeze me til I burn. They stop me moving. They suck out my energy and kill me slowly.
But I'm a hypocrite. I complain and complain. And yet, sometimes, I give myself over to my little monster. I miss the warmth of the hugs. The familiarity. It feels like I'm feeling nothing at all or this. My only two options. And so the hugs come as a comfort sometimes. I let myself get suffocated anyway. And then, just as I'm gasping for my last breaths of air, I'm released, the promise of another hug never far away.
Tagging at @PhoenixAsh, @Zammn and @AmethystUnicorn to join in :)

I'm gonna submit a few... Here is a poem it doesn't have a name yet.
The pain, being a disappointment, a terrible person, the depression, the anxiety. People leaving you, the emptiness inside. Worthlessness you wish you weren't. Replaceable. A nothing . Suicidal thoughts constantly. Hopelessness forever. Anger in your bones. Pain and hurt in your chest. Being afraid of people leaving so you leave. Feeling not alive. Loneliness you create. Being terrified of your mind. They say you have to save yourself but I can't I scream. This thing has ate at me piece by piece. Never ending. They say your getting better but they don't know what goes on in your head.
@imsorryitry aww can really feel how you feel from this poem how about my Daily Pain? as a title just an idea its the sense i get from the words
@imsorryitry that is beautiful. Love you ❤️
@remark
i miss talking to you... wish u can make me and you our own chat😔😔😔😔
@remark miss talking to you... really wish we had our own area 😔😔😔
This is called dead inside.
I wake up. The dream from the night before terrified me. The night before I was ready to die. Still am. I Wanted it all to go away. The thing is no one understood. So now I say nothing. I wanted to just leave so bad. I just kept it inside. Put on a smile ,hid my emptiness and sadness. Till it's all gone till I'm nothing but dust.
@imsorryitry aww
I take a bite within myself I have a fight. I think of how I will punish myself tonight. I love the emptiness in my stomach. How the coldness of the water falls. But if I keep going my progress plummets. I'm used to the rumbling now my life is crumbling. I'm drowning in self destruction. Now I have a happiness reduction. The anxiety doesn't go away. Everytime I eat it decides to stay. The scale is my best friend and enemy. Calories are the monsters . They bring you to the ledge. So you jump off the edge.

Just a small thing from me, please be forgiving my spelling & punctuation arn't the best ahha.
Today is but one day in the stream of existence,
Today is the day someone's parent dies, get hit by a car, has a child.
Today is but 86,400 moments frozen in an ever moving time.
Today is not tomorrow or yesterday,
But an ever flowing constant.
Today. Today is yesterday.
Today is 5 years past yesterday.
Today holds pain, terror and isolation,
Today I am small.
But really today is naught but a ghost.
Today is tomorrow.
Today is the fear of the future, fear for the present.
Today is where I am going next and what I must do
Today is overwhelming and difficult
But really today is something nobody knows.
Today is today. And for that I am thankful.
Today I can be myself and smile,
Today I enjoy life as it comes and dance.
Today I am carefree and joyful,
I hope today is my every day.
@Lilibuth12
Wow!!! This is so good!!! Can you teach me how to write poems one day?
@IndecisiveClementine186
Ahaahaah thanks :) really appreciate you saying that :).
I don't know if I know how to teach that ahha, I just play around with words until it says what feels right xD xD :P DW I have an A4 pad of paper covered in fails until I hit on what I wanted to say :) really glad you liked it though!
@Lilibuth12 awwww really well written :)
My most proud and powerful piece.
Isolation had been a huge part of my life for a longer than I can remember. I created this just as I started to find my feet.
Moral of the story. Although I was alone within what I thought was a decrepit pit, unescapable. I was what made myself lonely. Beyond the dense forest, made a void by the darkness was a horizen brightened by moonlight. There was so much more to it.
Art is my outlet.

@ImACow
Bravo!! This is exceptionally well done, and deeply emotive.
@ImACow wow this is really good
