When I am upset I meditate and practice mindfulness. It helps a lot!

Remind myself it's my own fault and I deserve to be miserable.

When I'm sad my brain gets really negative and self-loathing. It just makes things worse but I can't think any other way in the moment.

Hey, I totally get that, I think we all get into that head space time to time. Thoughts are so incredibly powerful, and if we listen and believe the wrong ones, well, we can really end up hurting ourselves. I'm sorry that you have to deal with such negative thoughts, it must be so so exhausting to listen to lies over and over like that. I bet you're tired of it, have you ever tried any healthy exercises? Such as breathing, listening to loud music, drawing, or writing, free association writing can be very helpful when in such a negative space. Honestly, another thing you can do when thoughts clog your head with lies of worthlessness and negativity, scream, go somewhere and scream like bloody murder, get them out of your head, its liberating. I hope you get out of these thoughts soon and get out of those sad days, there are alot of happy days out there, always look for em. Take care of yourself, you're valuable, your life is priceless ^-^

It is frustrating that my brain is constantly negative and self-critical, but at the same time I do want to stay self-aware and improve on my flaws. If my brain convinces me everything is a flaw how do I know which criticisms are legitimate and which are just my mental illness lying to me? It's hard to tell. I can't really do the screaming thing due to where I live, but I just can't get the passion or energy for anything else. I used to be very creative, now I just don't have the passion to be creative anymore. It could help, probably quite a bit, but I just don't think I have it anymore.

I agree, nobody deserves to have their brain turn against them like that, but because it's turned against me I hold myself to insane impossible standards and feel obligated to punish myself when I fail because I think I'm a failure and a bad person.

Pray the rosary. I'm not Catholic or even particularly religious but it's soothing to me.
